It's Caturday!

Emily

OK, Miss Satin, cat pics as promised.

The first batch are of Emily. She is 16 now and had to go live with Grandpa since she's now too old to travel with me :( I miss her terribly.

She is a nasty, cranky old thing that hates all living things except me...and now Grandpa, who she has trained up to suit her.

She's a world traveler and has killed mice in several countries.

(Pics of the island cats, who've adopted me, to follow)

The locals

These are the two cats that came with this place. Tiger, the tabby is a bit wild, so I have renamed her "Monster". Marmalade is a sweetheart. He sleeps 26 hours a day, sometimes in the most bizarre places.

They are all adorable! Sorry you had to let Emily go to your Dad's.

Thanks FF. Yeah, I miss her but I love that my dad has someone to keep him company. And I still have visitation rights. LOL.

OMG they're all so beautiful! Thank you sooo much for sharing your pictures with us!

I need to take pictures of the stray that's adopted us. The kids named her Mittens (I know - real original). She's relatively house trained - meow's when she wants in or out. And she's smart enough to know which window goes to my bedroom. Then she wakes me in the middle of the night if she wants in. I'm in the middle of training her not to claw the furniture. She's not so thrilled with being pet (she's kinda skittish), but she keeps coming back.

I almost wonder if she belonged to the people before us.

Either way, I'm going to look into getting her fixed this month, because stray or not I will end up taking care of the kittens if she gets preggers.

Get her a scratching post and put it near the furniture she's scratching. I'll bet she will prefer the post. That is, unless she's already accustomed to scratching the furniture. In that case, you'll have to show her the better way.

But, I'm sure you know all that. After all, you are keeper of the cookies. You just don't get any nookie cookies. :D

You're so welcome! I'm such a sucker for fur.

Scratching post, yes, very important.

Also...

Try putting catnip on the post, this helps.

If there areas that the kitten is constantly scratching, put double sided tape on them. Cats hate it.

Get a squirt gun and squirt her with water every time you catch her scratching BUT (very important) do not say anything. If you speak, she will associate the water with sound of your voice and you will thus train her to only scratch when you're not around.

Once she's calm enough to let you hold and handle her, take her over to the scratching post and physically manipulate her front paws on it - ie. show her what to do, then lots of praise, treats, loving afterward.

Once you're able to, keep her nails trimmed. Every four weeks is good.

Get on this ASAP as its hard to break cats of bad behaviour.:cattail:

*A little advice from an ex-vet assistant who's seen too many cats declawed*

Amagawd, Grace, she's BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Awww! *heart melts!!*

Isn't she? She's still a bit skinny, but getting better. When you pet her, though, you can feel her vertebrae. I'm hoping to get her to a vet next month, just to do a quick check up.

Okay, time for some pics.

First, we see Journey. She's very unhappy about the new cats, so she gets top billing. This is a very recent pic, and she'd curled up on the table between me and my laptop while I was playing WoW. She decided to use my wrist brace as a pillow, and this picture was the result.

This is Tigger.

I put my hand in the shot to show his size.

This very sleepy boy is the eminently mellow Dudley, complete with his stylin' fluffy purple scarf.

Hand added again. He's a bit bigger than Tigger, but still probably not quite full grown. I figure he's probably as long as he's going to get, or close, but will likely fill out and become broader.
