It's Caturday!

Naked cats or dogs are IMO poor creatures... spine-chilling in a way... They make me feel sad and pityful :(

In Germany we have a law for animal welfare.
In that law there are some paragraphs which forbid to breed animals with characteristics which let them have pain, sufferng, disadvantage or abnormal behaviour.
The German term for these kinds of breeds is "Qualzucht", which seems to have to equivalent in English.
The direct translation would be "agony breed"....

Just saying...

Examples of Qualzucht breeds include tailless breeds like the Manx and Japanese Bobtail, because a cat's tail is used for balancing and communication. Also any pure white and blue- or odd-eyed cat is considered Qualzucht because they are very often deaf. (This one isn't breed specific, it applies to several breeds.) Ear malformations are also considered Qualzucht - Scottish Fold, American Curl, etc. Munchkins are obviously right out due to the back problems they have, so are Twisties because - well, look at them and you'll see why. And Persians can be considered Qualzucht depending on the flatness of their faces; "pure" Persians tend to have VERY flat faces and this results in issues with their nasal passages, but a Persian that has been mixed with another breed might be considered okay. Polydactyly (many toes) is also not allowed because it is easier for the claws to cause infection in hidden toes. And yes, the Sphynx, Cornish Rex, and Devon Rex are all commonly considered Qualzucht...however, catteries still operate in Germany such as Rosennexus - just look at their adorable kittens!

Safra, perhaps you can tell us how the Qualzucht laws are enforced? After all, Rosennexus is not the only Sphynx cattery in German, and there are certainly other breeds there - Tinjas has Scottish Folds, several catteries breed Exotic Shorthairs, which are included as Qualzucht because of their flat faces, like Persians. (The Foldex could even show up in Germany despite having TWO strikes against it...it's a mix of Scottish Fold and Exotic Shorthair!) So even though there are laws, there are also catteries operating. I would imagine the German government is aware of these catteries, too.

BTW, check out the bottom of the page about Twisties for more info on Qualzucht.

But anyway...this is not about Caturday. POST SOME FUCKING CATS!!! :D

You can see how hard his arm muscles are flexing to keep those cats so tight to his chest that they can't get away!
