It's Back New and Improved

Greeting Editors:

With Lady C's kind attention I posted an new edition of "My New Best Friend" this morning.

How many of you can spot the error?

Lady C: Many thanks for your attention.:rose::rose::rose::kiss::heart:

Mistress Lynn perhaps this will make you smile, again even larger.

You're welcome, Jack. If MissLynn is your new editor I'm not worried anymore; you'll be in good hands.:rose:

Hey, that happens a lot. It's the main reason why we all need editors.

If you want to be completely sure everything's typed correctly, read your text backwards, starting with the last word (you read the words forward, but in reverse order). That way, they are taken out of context, which means your brain is not as ready to fill in the gaps (usually you miss those sorts of things because you know what you wrote, so your brain already knows what the word is supposed to be and doesn't notice mistakes as easily, if that made any sense).

The mistake? Only one???

Only One I saw?

OMG don't tell me there are more. My frail ego can't take all this. <swoon>:D

the 'kilobits' should read 'kilobytes' otherwise the story is only 12,160 byes long which is pretty lame by comparison.

still reading. let you know if I pick up more.... ;)

edit:
areole should be areola

"pj's" - you are supposed to be writing literature, not a txt msg; abbreviations are only really acceptable in direct speech when the speaker would have used them (e.g. "Are you a veggie?").

"He got me hidden crotch-less panties." This sentence should be in the pluperfect (past perfect): "He had got me hidden crotch-less panties" or possibly (depending on which version of Canadian English you are using) "He had gotten me hidden crotch-less panties".

I didn't look any further.

The paragraph six pars after the first (only?) email:
He grinned and patted my ass. "All the better for building the bumpers," he chuckled

is missing the full point.

Thanks Gang

I knew I could depend on all of you to jump right on the job.

"Aside from that Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?":)

The story has been up 20 day and had 1701 Views and 11 scores.
It is 3.73 avg, and I think that is not too bad for the effort.

No comments yet but still I'm satisfied.:)

Hooray! 4.0!

"My New Best Friend" reached a pinicle at 4.0 as the 12th vote was registered.:)

Score 4.00, Votes 11, Views 1782

I don't know how to read this did only 12 people read the story and decided to vote or did only 12 out of 1782 read the whole story?

As silly as the story is I guess I'll belive that I touched at least 12 people enough to have them press the vote stars.

After weeks of hangin in at 3.78 it fianlly reached 4.0 So a few people must have voted a 5. That surprises me.

1782 people clicked on the story title and had the first page loaded into their browsers. There is no way of knowing how many read the whole story, and how many did not. What is certain is that of those 1782, 11 people decided to vote. However, from your other comments I assume the number of votes should have been 12.

Yeah yesterday it was 12 and today it is 11, but it is still 4.0?

I don't want to start worrying about Cyber-Faries and such but that is strange.

Periodically the powers-that-be scan the story voting patterns and remove votes they deem to be unethical? unreasonable? unbelievable? or illegal and so the number of votes for a story can go down as well as up.

The sort of thing they eliminate is if a particular user logs on and gives a whole series of 1 votes to a number of stories in a short time without giving any higher votes. That is called "trolling" and happens usually to stories with very high votes, and in competitive situations.

Another way that the number of votes can drop is if someone actually writes to Laurel and asks for their user name to be cancelled. Then all the votes they ever gave are also deleted. Any postings on here are then left still with their name on but the descriptor (eg "virgin", "literotica guru", etc) changed to "guest". They are the "illegal" votes because if you are not a member you can't vote.

Finally if someone is expelled from the site the same happens as if they have resigned.

For a new writer with only one story, recently posted, it is unlikely (but possible) that either of the latter two has happened, so I would guess you fell foul of a troll.

As to the arithmetic there are only two possibilities:

(11 * 3.73) add 4 subtract 1 = 44 so perhaps the twelfth vote added was a 4 and a 1 was subtracted.
(11 * 3.73) add 5 subtract 2 = 44 so perhaps the twelfth vote added was a 5 and a 2 was subtracted.

I leave you to divide 44 by 11 to discover what your average should be.

Thanks for the info.
The story is showing some activity but no new scores. I'll keep my eye on it and see what happens.

I have about 28 other chapters of my novel up and they are all doing well.

I check them out every time I log on and keep an eye on thier actions.

Hey Jack,

good to see you back. :) I must apologise, I stopped after chp 24 of your series. Too many things happening at the moment, but I'll catch up with the rest at Xmas when I get some time off and can relax a bit.

Can't even get my next chp out at the moment :(

Well by then I may have a couple of new chapters up.
I've been doing some research and trying to get a idea hashed out.

I've got three stories in progress and have to make some money to pay for the property taxes soon.
