Correct me if I'm wrong...

But will putting <i> On either side of a word or phrase in a story make it italicize?

I've never really needed to use it before, but now I do.

Almost

I believe slyc_willie posted the most common html notations in a recent thread.

Almost right. It's <i> on one side and </i> on the other. That slash stop the italics.

That's pretty much it.

But I never do that. I italicize what I want in a story and upload it in .doc format. No need to include HTML tags there. And I've never had a problem.

Advantages to pasting HTML-markup text into the text entry box, rather than uploading a .DOC or .RTF or whatever, are 1) faster approval, reportedly, and 2) the submission can be previewed (and adjusted) right then. The advantage to uploading is simplicity -- slightly less stuff to fuck around with. To each their own.

If you replace the "i" with a "b" it makes the color bold.

And if you use a "u" it underlines the words.

Same here, I load it as an RTF file though, I've had issues with .docs.

Does this mean you're writing a new story ?
I'll keep a look out for that :)
