I always wonder what Trump would have done if Pelosi, Pence, and others had been executed in an attack he facilitated.

Would he have declared martial law and tried to stay in power under the guise of a national emergency???

So, the "buck" stops with McCarthy (at this point). Unless it can be proven that he was ordered from above to take that action. (As much as folks want to assign Donald Trump magical powers not in evidence, there is still plenty of room for incompetence through the whole chain of command.)

I'm not watching (I'll read the book when it comes out). Any testimonial evidence of orders/intercession by Trump yet?

As far as "the optics" are concerned; how does the ability to rapidly deploy the NG in the face of an attack on the Capitol create bad optics??? The NG not only wasn't surrounding the Capitol despite the common knowledge of an imminent attack, but also, the authority to deploy them was stripped from the local commander. Did anyone in charge consider "the optics" of a Capitol breach??? Of disparate security responses to BLM protesters vs a MAGA mob???

You provide plenty of plausible deniability to avoid accountability.
