Some of you may remember months ago I mentioned a planned move into a glorified humpy setup while building a house...
It finally appears the move is imminent. The delay has been caused by a number of things.
1. The drought broke. This, overall, is a damned good thing. Specifically for me, it is a bad thing - as soon as it rains the red clay that masquerades as a driveway becomes completely impassable, meaning no access to the building site.
2. The shed is still not built. The kit is now hidden under the weeds and grass that have leapt out of the ground with the rain. Said greenery is knee-high due to total failure of old ride on lawnmower last year.
3. Caravan number 1 (the main component of humpy setup) leaks. Badly. After several resealing attempts, husband has constucted a frame to take roofing iron and cover the whole infernal thing.
4. The hot water heater in Caravan number 1 is a death trap - it works, sometimes. It turns off when it feels like, meaning unburnt gas can build up. It turns on when it feels like it. Which means it overheats what water is in the pipes.

We will be moving very soon because
1. Brother in law's girlfriend is due to give birth in the next two months. He has to repaint and remodel this house in that time (he's had 6 months so far and achieved sod all).
2. I am not staying here to take the blame for lack of remodelling etc.
3. GF and baby need a home.

In the past few days there has been a flurry of activity.
A new water heater for Caravan 1 was purchased (it was supposed to be put in last weekend but didn't turn up until Monday).
We spent last weekend in Caravan 1, testing it. All's well (apart from the hot water). The stove is better than the one I've been using. It's warmer than this house.
I have just (literally, this morning) collected a uteload of secondhand, good condition carpet to go into the old tumbledown shack. This is being pressed into service due to lack of shed construction (which WILL be done, if brother in law wants my stuff out of his house - and seeing as he was supposed to be head builder on this project...)
A mate is keeping an eye out for secondhand roofing iron for the cover for Caravan 1 (he worked at a metal recyclers :D)
Another mate just happened to have a phone line jointing kit ... we need to fix the phone cable into the property after putting a series of holes in it with an excavator. Hey, we didn't even know the cable was there! It hasn't been used in 20 years.
We have several people seeking a small shed/aviary to use as a chicken coop until we can construct the henhouse of doom. This is vital - there're foxes about.
Caravan 2 (the teen queen's hideout) needs a bit of gusseting work (the floor's a tad iffy in one corner - but this van was free!) and a cat flap installing.
Caravan 1 also needs a cat flap.
The husband has to organise the acquisition of a load of gravel for the driveway (and I think he's forgotten that bit).

Guess this weekend'll be a busy one - what's the bet it bloody rains?

I will take both those lots of wished luck, bottle them and uncork on Friday...

;)

The only downside to all this is I will be offline once the move happens until such time as we can get a landline functional and the net reconnected.

Who knows? I might get some writing done!

wows...I am so in awe of your right now hon. And I hope it all gets done. :rose:

Wow, gotta love transition. A friend of mine went through this a little while back, it was tough. The upside is that it was worth it! Good luck and we sure are going to miss you when you are offline.

It's Thursday morning and the storm clouds are building up (literally).

Anyone know any dry weather dances?

Nope, sorry but I can't help you on this one.

Good luck on the move and the building. (In the middle of my own.)

Nope

I only enjoy rain dances...no dry weather ones...besides we need the rain.

Has anyone seen that Hurricane in Hawaii? I wish it would head this way.

J.K.

The new hot water heater is installed and it works. Only took three trips to the hardware shop!
It's not raining, yet. It's definitely thinking about it.

Mega Good Luck starr. :rose:

You folks sure have the pioneer spirit.

Better watch it though, heffalumps and foxes don't mix too well.

yay on the hot water heater...if there wasnt an ocean I'd offer to come and help..I like building sheds and stuff. Good luck and hope it goes well.

Night has fallen (and so is the rain  - hopefully it'll stop before it gets too damn wet).
Tomorrow the GREEN!!! carpet goes down in the shack, rain hail or shine.
And if it's not raining, we have found a source of gravel for the driveway, which will make the threat of rain less of an issue.

Congrats, Starrkers

You should be moving into your newly built home by 2010 :D

Why would you heat hot water?

Sorry, pet peeve... ;)

Sorry, Thee. That kind of thing usually peeves me too

GREEN!! carpet now half done - we struck a small snag with a door that needed reswinging.
Gravel still at quarry (dammit, we just couldn't find a couple of shovels :D)
The foxproof hen house construction begins tonight.
And the rain held off until today.

I think all your rain came to us :D I'm looking out the window at a 3/4 dug up lawn but the rain just keeps coming down. Hope you get that gravel soon

Wow! It sounds like quite a project. Still, it could be worse--you could be dealing with contractors.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

I've been dealing with contractors off and on for the last week. We're trying to buy a house - a foreclosure with a good bit of work that needs done - and we've been meeting with contractors to figure out how much the work will cost.

I hate 'em.

We're building as much as possible ourselves, to avoid having to deal with (and pay!) contractors. But we'll still need them to do plumbing and electrical. And probably to do finishing work on plastering etc.

Mind you, if we'd used contractors the house would've been finished three years ago...
