It Itches!

Lately, I have been getting tiny bumps on my skin, kinda like bug bites. Mostly located on my thighs and arms. They could possibly be bug bites. But then I yesterday I got this rash on my side next to my right breast. And it itches like crazy!!! It just looks like little patche of poison ivy.

But I know it can not be poison ivy because I have been no where near it to get it. It can't be razor burn because i don't shave right there. And I can't be allergic to the soap we use for clothes or anything cuz I never had any problems before. Chicken Pox are also ruled out because I have had them, and the little bites do not look like Chicken pox cuz they are smaller, plus I have not been near anyone with chicken pox. It can't be the bra's I wear because I have never had problems with them either.

The only possible thing I can figure it would be is something related to my dry skin. Please just tell me something to get it to stop itching!

Thanks,
SlowMoe

heat rash, dry skin irritation. If you can, I'd suggest going to see your doctor just to be sure. Otherwise, don't scratch. Put some neosporin with lidocaine on it. That will stop the itching and keep it from becoming infected where you have scratched. Plus the vaseline base in the neosporin will help sooth the skin if it's dry skin irritation.

Wash the area with warm water and soap and then pat it dry.
Try applying medicated powder like Gold Bond or an over the counter cream like Cortizone... You can try an oatmeal bath to soak in... Aveeno Bath is a good one... If you live in near the ocean, a quick dip in the salt water might dry it up if it is something like poison oak or ivy...

If it doesn't go away you might try seeing your doctor... You could have something that needs to be treated with an antibiotic cream or oral antibiotics... There are a lot of skin conditions that can cause this... If you are dealing with a great deal of stress at the moment it could be a case of shingles and you will need medical care or it can become quite serious...

Not to alarm you, or say that you have them...but you may want to check for bedbugs. I read somewhere recently that there's a new, resistant bedbug that is spreading quickly. Anyways, just a thought.

Thank you

Thanks for the suggestions. I guess I will just have to keep an eye on it to see what it does. If it gets worse or doesn't heal in a few days I will get it looked at.

Do you have pets? Sounds like flea bites to me.

Too funny! I popped back in here cuz that occurred to me, too. Especially this time of year when it starts to get cooler, the fleas come inside where it's warmer. You don't even need pets for that to happen =( Bastard fleas. I hate them with a passion!

Yes I have thought of that as a possiblity too. And they could be. But I did just change the sheets on my bed. What do bedbug bites look like and how do you know if they are around?

Then I thought about fleas because I have 2 dogs and a cat that are always around me. But we give them treatments to prevent fleas (plus we usually don't have a big problem with them and fleas anyways)and it is towards the end of flea season here.

Just because you havn't had a problem in the past does NOT mean that soap or your bra can't be the problem now. The manufacturermay have made some change to the soap you use without mentioning it, or the particular container you've been using recently may be contaminated -- either in manufacturing or becase of something that happened during shipping.

What you describe sounds like "Hives." Hives can be caused by stress, a change in diet, an allergic reaction, and probably a few other things I can't recall off-hand.

Youcan treat the symptoms with hydro-cortisone cream, calamine lotion, or some of the other suggestions you've gotten, but if the problem persists, only seeing a doctor can isolate the ause and "cure" the problem.

Seriously...we had fleas BAD this year (many chemicals and bug bombs finally got rid of them. My dogs are walking chemical factories now)...and the bites never itched, just were irritating.

Scabies maybe? If the bumps get fluid-filled, could be scabies. But those usually start on the torso, not extremities...hmmm...

Well, I did sleep with you in Chicago.

Hey, I told you not to tell anyone! Sheesh! Don't do anything with PCG and expect her to keep quiet about it!

I'm sorry to say but I really don't think that it is hives. Aren't hives a bit bigger and appear all of a sudden? These have been appearing slowly over the past couple of days.

Another possiblity could be that there may be a spider lurking around that thinks I make a good lunch! Which I hope not cuz I hate spiders with a passion!

But the little bites are not to bothersome. It is mostly the rash type thing on my side.

Be nice or I'll tell everyone about that thing you do with your toes.

Oh sure, complain about it now! I thought you LIKED what I do with my toes! See if I ever do that for you again. Go ahead, beg for it.

You change laundry detergents lately? That caused it for me once............

Nope it is the same detergent that we always use. Though we did get a new box recently. Maybe the detergent mix is screwed up.

See if your detergent or fabric softener or whatever is now "New and Improved" sometimes, that's the culprit.

My younger daughter is allergic to ginger -- in small quantities it causes an outbreak of hives that lasts for about a week. in her case, the hives are never any bigger than the head of a pin, and sledom even that large. They a start out as a few isolated itchy bumps and spread -- much like the symptoms you describe -- before fading in a reverse of the spread.

If she is exposed to higher levels of ginger, the hives show up faster and are a bit bigger -- still nothing bigger than a pinhead, but at that size.

Since the problem is mostly on your legs and thighs, it could also be a result of a "grass allergy" or something hiding in dry grass if you've been outside in tall dry grass recently.
