Daesh is asking for it. Turks are very nationalistic. If they decide to set aside 'for the time being', their dispute with the Kurds, they could be in Iraq with a huge fucking army in a matter of weeks. And they won't feel bound to give fair trials to Daesh members or be all that discriminate with their attacks. No regional force can stop the Turks.

For all their intolerance to gays and stuff the Turks love their secular governance. Would not take much to have them just put their own fundies and militants up against the wall.

At least I hope so. It would be a tough decision but an easy task to go after Daesh HARD. And the west could walk away and wipe their hands of the whole region. And make some good money selling replacement weapons and jet fuel.

I don't get it.
Why would ISIS target a place which would in all likelihood be full of innocent muslims? And I read somewhere thar Turkey was 'helping' ISIS, so to speak.

Unless they had a specific target in mind. They said that the explosion occurred at the International Airport, near the area where the Albanian president had just landed. But Albania is a predom. islamic country, so I'm even more confused.

Well maybe I can fill in a few broad strokes just from past experience. Basically, the whole thing is George Bush's fault. There were some minor regional disagreements but of course something about Halliburton blah blah blah that caused the whole current strife...

It's so weird.
Because I just read that there were similar attacks before in Turkey, but of a smaller scale. But by this last one, they will probably alienate Turkey even further, as well as other muslim communities from Europe.

It all sounds very counterproductive to me.

Yup.
I met quite a few turks here (one colleague + kebabs : yum yum) but they all seemed quite westernised and open-minded. They were very warm and funny, and I didn't get any hint of misogyny. Quite the opposite from what I read online re Erdogan's strange beliefs.
Or maybe people who decide to emmigrate have a specific personality, who knows…
