I would have if I had been invited.

 Your sister did not arrange for you to be taken along and paraded in front of all the eager bridesmaids! What kind of sister is she?!!! And you let her stay in your house with her brats too!

You are too good for them anyway, we will find you a much better cutie.

I live with my parents. It is their house.

Gah, is it too much to ask of those fecking basturds who go by the title of overpaid line managers to actually let you know something useful about the marking they hand out?

Screed of emails saying: Here is where to access your marking, here are some links to some exceedingly badly written instructions on how to download it (except they are so badly written and the system is so complicated you will have to ring one of these two numbers who will pass you on to a third to actually tell you how to do it). Gah! don't go near it till you've done the marking! Chrissake, don't touch it! You will submit a mark by accident and make a mess of our system.

Five days after you have started marking, an email appears saying: Oh no, that was the wrong link and directing you to a webpage which appears to be exactly the same as the rubbish you have not been relying on anyway.

In the meantime, you receive feedback on marking you did two months ago - far too late for you to do anything about the suggested additional feedback you give to a student who has now finished the module. At least it confirms that your mark was accurate, contrary to a report you also receive in the post saying Yup, once more your marking is aberrant, your students do much too well in comparison to everyone else's students, it must be you being too generous, you slut marker - stop giving it away, never mind the criteria - shoot the hopeful little scum down!

Is there anywhere a little note saying, BTW, this marking is so totally different to the other marking you've been doing that we strongly advise you to look at the form first and in fact, here is a paper copy of what it will look like? No-o-o. Lucky that the ditzy MILF does her marking so closely allied to the marking criteria in order to refute claims that she is marking too highly, that it's not that hard to cut it all up and paste it back into the form which is now based on the marking criteria instead of the tutor's whimsical fancy as to what to pick on to comment about in the student's work.

All to be done by tomorrow - oh joy.

This calls for a whisky. And I am not talking about the bloody Bowmore which the Fella brought back from a conference in order to replace the Bowmore which he brought back from a conference in order to replace the Bowmore my friend gave me. (I don't even like Bowmore that much but lucky me, he has already drunk half the latest bottle he brought.)

:rolleyes::mad::rolleyes:

And it would break the universe if someone were to actually help me get a date with a woman. The three women that did go out with me were close to ending it all!

OMG! I have reorganised the marking, submitted it in the form - even though it went back a page at one point and deleted all my elegantly composed delicately sarcastic remarks about the surprisingly arrogant student's nonsense. (Don't worry, I do it very well, LOL. Nobody except the other examiners will realise. We very rarely get arrogant students.)

I managed to salvage the form before the cat entered a fail mark for one student.

I have done this in addition to taking Piglet to synchronised swimming, then tending to her when she started a sniffle and would not settle to sleep.

At least thank God the Fella was absent meeting great figures who invented the internet instead of hanging around requiring attention.

And the Outlaws got their panic phone calls in over the weekend so they are wrapped in cotton wool and sleeping off their tablets.

And owing to my being a MILF of infinite-resource-and-sagacity, I phoned the optician's earlier and cooed at them until they said: "Oh yes, Madam, your new glasses will be ready in 20 minutes," so I have not been blinded by having to peer at this stupid form without my new reading glasses. (Yes, yes, they make me look very authoritative and stern - :D, not a chance.)

Je-esus, you would think while they were doing the 'staff development' events they could organise a training session in these effing forms instead of something on how to mark an ordinary assignment for two lecturers with a combined teaching and marking experience of forty years! (Incidentally almost entirely based on my feedback to students who get aberrantly high marks, I wonder why .)

Mom called a while ago. My grandmother (Dad's mom) fell in the shower and broke her hip. Fell YESTERDAY morning, and no one found her until this morning. :( She is in the hospital and they are talking surgery. I'm waiting for more info and wondering why my aunts and uncles (my dad is the oldest of eight) all have to be jackasses.

Fingers Crossed.
A pal of mine recently fell in similar fashion (he's 90) with a similar result.
Short operation, two titanium screws later and he's fixed up in remarkably quick time.

And family jackasses are what goes with the territory!

Thank you. There are so many issues here -- I'm sure we've all had stuff like that -- and it's so frustrating. I wish I could do more, but I'm an hour and a little more away, and because I'm one of the "grandchildren," I wouldn't even be considered for doing anything actually helpful. In fact, the "daughters," i.e., my dad's sisters, are expected/expect to do most except they don't.

They didn't used to be like this, or maybe they did and it was hidden until it all came out somewhere around 1987/88. All of a sudden I had one aunt widowed, two getting divorced, and everyone suddenly decided they had some variation of middle-child syndrome b/c my grandfather didn't make it to all their freaking baseball games and crap.

Sorry. I vent easily on this. Thanks for the good wishes. Truth is my grandmother has surprised us before with how resilient she is, and I can only hope that continues here.

I've just received an eBay purchase from Fort Myers, FL.

It only took 6 days to arrive. Recent eBay purchases from the US had taken three or four weeks.

All of them were standard letter size.

Is the US Mail improving?

More like the stars all lined up and you got lucky. :D

Erm. .
A tailwind over the Atlantic (for the mail?)

I managed to catch a decent-sized Bream today; just in time to prevent a large boat ruining my efforts!

Pretty sure I messed up my knee walking to the grocery store last night...

Awww. :( Hope it wasn't too bad and is better soon.

Congrats. :)

Still waiting for more news on my grandmother. She was... delirious, or something. She thought my one aunt (her oldest daughter) was someone from England (my grandmother is from England), and then there was something about thinking all of her other kids had died in a car crash. I'm seriously hoping this is a result of dehydration, medication, or something like that.

I'm not that good an angler, so 'thank you'.

Fingers still crossed.

[PS. Strangle enough, I heard of a similar 'family crisis' (the sort that causes good folks to vent their feelings) recently. ]

Ha, strangle: what I'd like to do to various aunts and uncles.

Oh crap! I need to pick my two photos to enter for a contest before the deadline is up. Winner gets a free night at a cottage.

TGP, I had no idea you have a sister - and one with kids to boot! She will be spending time at the schoolgate perhaps? Meeting other moms, some of them single? (I know you would be fine with dating a single mom.) Why do you not ask your sister to help you find someone? She may give you good feedback too on anything you could do to improve your woman hunting skills.

Um, moving into your own place might help too!

:rose: I really know about how this feels, just wrote a blogpost on 'the sandwich generation' on my 'clean' Anthropological Mum blog.

This could quite easily be a temporary effect of dehydration, medication or all sorts of things. We went through this several times with Outlaw Dad, always fearing it was the onset of his Parkinsons or dementia but it always turned out to be a water infection, his medication interacting with something etc etc.

My blurt:
Second day at home with slightly poorly Piglet. Just as I was getting into my routine and about to enjoy my 'day off' (Tuesdays - no multitasking, only cleaning ). Still, I suppose having to spend time running round after someone going: "Mom, mom! MOM! I am bored, I want my ipad, I want drinks, I want attention," is my routine.

OK, now to take kitten to the vet for vaccination (he will be surprised to see only one follower tagging along with me instead of the usual circus train), clean bathroom as did not manage to do it yesterday, attempt to draft application for more teaching, attempt to sort out remaining marking, buy sausages for cub scouts, all while ignoring cries of Mom! Mom! and occasionally preparing cooling drinks and soothing remarks. ("If you don't stay still and lie quietly you will not be well enough for karate tomorrow and I will slay you in more painful ways than the Horrible Histories tv show ascribed to the Incas!")

Oh, and the kitten has jumped up and down on Piglet's karate suit leaving pretty little pawmarks all over the white cloth. Luckily the MILF of infinite-resource-and-sagacity always washes things inside out, the outside looks fine so Sensai will not know!

She lives in south Jersey and I live in north Jersey. It's a three hour drive.

And if I could afford a place of my own I would get it. but trading roommates with my family, who I trust, to be roommates with strangers that I don't trust? sounds like a bad decision to me.

Thanks, Naoko. Last word is that my grandmother had the surgery yesterday and it went well. Apparently she doesn't come out of anesthesia well, so I imagine we won't know if she remembers the details of the fall for another day or so. Her memory and all is starting to go, it seems, and again it's hard to tell if that's something like dementia or Alzheimer's, or medication.

I kind of hope she doesn't remember; it would be freaky to remember/realize you laid on your floor for a day and no one came. :(
