No, it is not a given. I was a high school librarian. Teens are individuals.

This evening I watched our local Sea Cadets.

Whenever we have a large community event, the Sea Cadets will be there, helping to marshal the crowds, take admission payments and generally be helpful.

So will the Army Cadet Corps, the Boy Scouts, the Girl Guides and other youth organisations.

I can rely on any of them as a group, or as individuals.

Really sick of trying to find a navy bridesmaid dress that will work for three very different sized women, one of which is pregnant and due two days after my wedding and another who is nursing. I'm sorry but I think she should have let me chose someone else when she found out she was pregnant and due so close to the date of the wedding. She'shis sister so I can't just give her the boot. Grrr.

Why not do different dresses but in the same color and length. That way they can pick something they're comfortable in and that they might actually be able to wear again.

Why did I say that?

*stuffs self into a shoebox to hide from own stupidity*

Don't feel bad...most of us have suffered from foot-in-mouth-itis more times than we'd like to admit.

And, honestly, what seems like a horrible gaffe to us isn't usually really all that noticed by others. We're our worst critics.

Read that as foot-in-mouth-TITS the first time.

That's how it started out and it got very scary so I decided I better do something. Then I decided if I was choosing the dresses myself, maybe it would be nice to have them match. I found one dress but it's out of stock on one of the sizes we need. Found another I LOVE but it doesn't go up far enough in size. I may revisit the idea and just make the decision. I'd like them all to be one color but I wouldn't mind if they were the same fabric but different styles or something like. Part of the problem is that there isn't too much out in navy yet. I'll figure it out.

Are you having a single color theme or more than one color? I had a similar problem with my girls when I got married. My colors were Navy and Silver. What I ended up doing is having my maid of honor in a different dress/color all together than my bridesmaids. I've also seen some that had the maid/matron of honor in a different dress and then alternated the colors based on placement in the lineup of the wedding party. Good luck with it. I'm sure you'll figure out something that works for everyone :)

I didn't quite give them free reign--that just leads to craziness for all. I basically picked the color, and then five dresses that came in that color and a range of sizes. Told them to pick one of the five and get fitted by a certain date (oddly enough they all picked the same one even though they range in sized from 4 to 18, and they all looked great in it)

Yeah, that's probably where I went wrong. I just told them a long navy blue dress. I figured they might already have one. Didn't quite work out. Thing is, I offered to pay for it because money is tight for everyone right now and I have a good job. So, I'm trying to find something reasonably priced.

Well, there's always David's Bridal. If you make up a new email address and get on their mailing list, you'll get tons of coupons and secret sales notices. Otherwise, After Six usually carries a lot of navy and has maternity-friendly dresses. I ended up getting my dresses from Alexia Designs via a local shop.
