Today's Blurt:
A contact through Genes Reunited has vastly increased my (real life) family tree.
On my maternal grandmother's line is an unusual surname that frequently occurs in Genes Reunited hot matches because it is so distinctive. However this contact has traced that surname back to a man who was born in the Kingdom of Navarre (now part of Spain) in 1250, dying in Essex in 1304. His descendants lived in Essex until my great-grandmother's generation moved to London in the mid 19th Century.
I don't mind being a tiny part Spanish, but Essex! The shame of it. I live, and my daughters were born, in Kent.
And there's more. My great-grandmother's older brother was convicted at the Old Bailey of stealing a pair of trousers and other lesser items. He could have been sentenced to death but the judge was merciful. He was transported to Tasmania for seven years. At the time of the trial he was 12 years old.
So now I'm related to Essex Girls AND a convict sent to Australia.
Og
PS. For my friends across the pond. Kent and Essex are distinct counties that are rivals at many things. They consider themselves as different as Texas and California.
I do enjoy your blurts, Og.![]()

Oh god I'm writing.Don't know if I should be happy or worried.
I am so very tired of sore, chapped lips.
