amen to all of that... even though i don't live there i find the hype and personal attacks we read about to be very distracting from the real purpose of your elections

Dear Grace (and and Jag, Starkers, Holly, X, etc.):

Check out this (it's the OP in the "too many political threads" thread). It's an apology and an explanation that, although those who aren't "into" this sort of thing have to take it on faith, the polical debate and discourse that occurs on AH is really of a very high order, in a way that does us proud. Really. It may seem like caterwauling, but it's not, which would become obvious if you were to peek at what passes for political discourse almost anywhere else on the internet (I don't recommend it).

Bottom line is the apology: Our political debating is a form of pollution on the rest of this community, which is why I called that thread "too many political threads." The least we could do is restrict ourselves to ghetto that occupies less real estate.
