It helps to learn to drink beer after playing handball in the heat of a Riverside, California summer. Nothing quenches thirst quite as well.

I was sitting on the veranda of the Vicotoria Falls Hotel having just come off my first safari. I sat in the rataan easy chair looking out over 40 acres of lawn and jacaranda trees. In the distance could be seen the Iron Bridge Cecil Rhodes built in an attempt to link Cairo and the Cape as well as the mist rising from the Falls themselves. When the waiter asked what I'd like to drink . . . only a gin and tonic would do, old chap. Simply nothing else, don'tcherknow.
