It's high school... I have all remedial math classes, filled with students who failed their ITBS and ITED (Iowa tests) math portion. Most of them have learning disabilities and/or are considered at-risk. Some are neither of those, but just act bratty. I'm the one who is supposed to get the back on track. Then I have one class that's just considered an "easy math credit", which is Consumer Math. The kids in that class are the ones allergic to work.

It's a noble goal, but fucking stressful. And quite frustrating.

Take a deep breath and do your honest best. And at the end of the year, don't take anything personally; remember you only had them for a little while.

My wife used to sub in B/D classes, elementary school. Very popular at 4 different schools.
Asked me why I didn't sub at the high school, I laughed and said they wouldn't let me bring a baseball bat and a bullwhip :D

Run it all on Linux and cut your worries by 2/3s minimum :D

If Filemaker would port their system over to Linux for the server application, I would do it first thing in teh morning. As much as I love Filemaker, I'd give a kideny to have this whole system on linux.

Done and mailed! I probably don't have a prayer in hell but I couldn't not try.

Thank you Bluebell!!!!!!
Oh, my. :rose:
Best of wishes to you, dark princess.

Okay, so, birthday cards. I can't decide between the talking hamster and the piñata at therapy. Damn.

This is something I could not do. Fortunately almost all my kids want to be there. I do not envy you.

Yeah, my class consisting mostly of freshmen was particularly depressing. They're all basically planning on dropping out. The seniors, at least, know they only have to tough it out for one more semester. They relaxed once they realized I was truly trying to help them, not out to get them.

Sitting down with them and talking to each one individually about their plans for after high school really helped (there's only nine students in the class). They seemed to feel very comfortable around me, and this was the only class out of the bunch where I felt very much at ease with the students.

We'll see how it goes. I'm sure I'll have the urge to bang my head against the wall quite frequently over the next few weeks.

I keep looking for an open source alternative, 3 of my customers would switch if one works ;)

I have run it on a laptop with samba and wine, not quite there yet. :(

Hmmm, tough decisions. :rose: Pretty AV!
If you keep saying such nice things you're gonna find yourself on the receiving end of a smushygushycrunchywunchygooglymooglyflufflydoodlely HUG. :D

I went with the psychologically damaged piñata, by the way.

Thanks :rose:

And thanks to Tarakin and Starrkers too for the encouraging words.:kiss:

All the tricks some of my good teachers used are probably illegle now :(
I did go to my ten year reunion the year you were born

You will do just fine :rose:

Mostly they just need to know that someone actually cares about them. There's another guy who's in our credential team that teaches the same sort of class and is CONSTANTLY telling us that his kids are no good and that they don't care and even went so far as to say they were all gang members. One teacher absolutely reamed him for it, but it didn't phase him. It pisses me off that a guy like that gets approved to teach young kids.

Oh, and he also went so far as to say that out of all the classes offered in school English is 95% important and everything else is 5%. Ass.

Anyways, I really hope you can get through to these kids, and it seems like you're handling it the right way. :)

You get two thumbs WAY up from me. :)

That pisses me off. I do get frustrated too, but I know better than to let it show like this. I check and re-check my actions to make sure I'm not accidentally prejudiced. I'll try my very best to go towards every student with an open mind, even if I'll get burned. It's not easy, but it's something I'm glad I can say about myself.

I'm just trying to find the right balance between being strict and caring. I want to be a strict, caring teacher, but it's tough to do both at once in your first day. .

And thank you:kiss::kiss:

I know, I've been struggling with that myself. I have a tendency to be too nice and soft-spoken. Plus I think I have a bit too much fun with them at times. Live and learn.

And you're most welcome. :)

You have the right attitude, that might be most important.
I have not taught myself but grew up in it, Mom - 8th & 9th grade Home Ec. and Dad was a Prof for 30 years. Have at least 8 cousins teaching now.
I really hope you get throught to them, with your attitude the results will be very good. :rose:

What the heck is it going to take for me to get you to reply with more than a short sentence? You seem like a nice person, and I hate to say this, but you are boring the hell out of me.

(unrelated to anyone here)

ETA: And you, have you ever heard of a comma? Period? Your sentences would be a hell of a lot easier to read if you actually separated them into sentences, instead of writing one large mass of words.

I've finally seen a lot of the avs that were posted over the last weekend...and holy hell almighty! If nothing else could cheer me up those did!:catroar::D

2nd blurt~ i hate tescos website and the people running it should be hog tied and :caning: for making it so difficult to look at anything or to even get connected. And they can not blame it on the speed of our broadband as we run a business from home its about as high a speed as you can get. :p:p:p

Winter Storm

Looks like part of Georgia is getting hammered. We seem to be in the path here in NC as well. Stay safe, southerners.
