It always amazes me which kids I reach. One boy who grumbled through the entire poetry unit wrote me a note on the last page of his poetry project:
"Dear Ms. Noire,
I just wanted to say thanks for making me get why people like poetry.
I'm really proud of poem #3. I never knew I could write like that."
Considering I just had a rather dreadful week, the kind that makes me reconsider my career choice, coming across this as I was grading was a nice surprise.

My best friend just told me that our relationship was one sided that I never listen....which is totally false, he does not communicate his needs or when he wants to talk....I am upset because he has been my main support and now I have no one here really... I am hurt because I really do care. I do not know what to do. He is an alcoholic and tends to distort to the negative but I had not a clue and this was going on for years according to him...My old habits are egocentric....but I am not that way now accept in a melt down... we were childhood friends too....gone! I am not to talk about myself anymore and then it is okay for it to be all about him? He told me I do not care! its not true! its not true! I cannot believe he thinks this.*crying*
