months of work and obsessing, and what do I get when fishing compliments for my new figure?

Don't worry, you will have another baby!

Awkwardness I understand, but this is plain evil.

Don't worry a***** I did not do it for you, I did it for ME!

"We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender . . ." Winston Churchill, June 4, 1940

(Don't know if it's relevent, but seems like a good tonic regardless. :) )
I always wondered why he didn't say "We shall fight them ... in Berlin."

It wouldn't have seemed plausible given the context. At that moment everyone else was wondering how soon we would surrender to them . . .

Yes, I know. But it would have been a good ending maybe, something like "and finally we'll fight them in Berlin".
On the other hand it may have been too much. He obviously knew the way to talk to his people, he had them motivated for all those years. So who am I to critize him?

It was a heckuva rallying speech. I think my fave was from a speech just a couple weeks earlier:

". . . If we can stand up to him, all Europe may be free and the life of the world may more forward into broad, sunlit uplands. But if we fail, then the whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science."

He goes on to deliver the ringing "finest hour" prediction, but this is the passage that has always been most deeply evocative to me. Indeed, the phrase "broad, sunlit uplands" appears in one of my porn stories - in a very different context. :D

Today was horrible. The stupid bank manager gave me too much tension. The moronic CA gave me even more tension (though the sweet boy sis give me a discount). And I spent too much time on phone trying to talk figures and all that math stuff with these people, and trying to be in two places at one time. I think I used up enough brain power for the next one month.

*hugs* :rose:

Churchill would have been glad to be your inspiration! :D

The world would have been a very dark place with Hitler winning those days. The oil of the Middle East, which was defended at El Alamein, and the additional armies of the west at Moscow 1941 (guarding the Atlantic Fortress vs Britain instead) would have defeated the Sovjet Union. Churchill had hit the right tone more than once in his speeches:

„Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves that, if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say: 'This was their finest hour.“ (you hinted at that one)

"I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat"

"Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few"

„This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.“

„From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an Iron Curtain has descended across the continent. Behind that line lie all the capitals of the ancient states of Central and Eastern Europe. Warsaw, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Belgrade, Bucharest and Sofia, all these famous cities and the populations around them lie in what I must call the Soviet sphere.“

Kudos to such a great man!

I've never experienced such a cardiovascular leaf removal job - I'm beat! (Wonderfully releived to have it done though.)

Thanks for fucking up my day, that was just what I needed. If you don't feel like coming down here, just tell me and don't invent stupid fucking excuses that don't even add up. I was looking forward to today, but instead I'm now sitting here in a fucking depressed mood and don't feel like doing anything. Gee thanks.

Imp rocks the turkey quesadilla! :nana:

Just got rid of allllllllllllll the leftover turkey in one fell (but delicious) swoop.

Diva child has rescinded her earlier "I hate you!" (because I said 'no' to take-away from Outback) and decreed that her mama knows her shit in the kitchen.

I really hate it when something very important hinges on someone else doing something and then they don't do it. Hopefully I can pull my ass out of the mess my supervisor has gotten me into.
