How do you call the sounds that a chicken makes?
According to little one chickens say this 'cluck cluck, ssqqquuaacckkk, peck, peck peck' ! Least at feeding time that is;)

clucks or clucking. OK?
Thanks for your help. :rose: Clucking is very good, and I'll definitely use it, but that's the fairly quiet noise, right? Do you call it something different when they start making a real racket?

A chicken has suddenly become one of the main characters of my story, and I have never learned or described anything about a chicken in English. Wasn't that a great idea.

I think ssqqquuaacckkk is the one I'll definitely use. :D

I have some. They didn't do much for me. But maybe I'm just odd.

Well, the article I read said that they are very subtle. One thing I read said that the women orginally would put them in and meditate for hours, rocking gently until the orgasm would overtake them. The thing is, they don't actually move around in you, it's what's inside them moving around inside them, so the vibrations should be extremely subtle. I think it might be a good way to work on getting better in touch with one's own body. They also supposedly strengthen the muscles.

That's definitly something we have to incorporate in our school plans :)
Let's have a club (germans love having "Vereine"). The "For Using Chickenlanguage Konferederation". It has a nice Acronym also! :D

Clucking isn't always quiet. They can be quite loud. (My dad is a chicken farmer).

Chirping is also done, though it is usually done by the baby chicks. It's a soft and quite cute unless you have a whole lot of baby chicks doing it then it can be down right annoying.

Crowing is loud and a pain in the ear to hear when the sun is rising and the Rooster is awake and you want to sleep.

I was "using" them for several hours. Anything from sitting casually to walking about the room. I may have just been doing it wrong though. I'm not real patient when I want to be naughty. I wanted them to be naughty which would lead me to touching myself. :)

Perfect :D Thanks!

I might need an editor who knows their chickens once this is done. My best friend in grade school used to have some, so I've got a general idea about how they act, but I'm no expert.

They are annoying and messy and dirty.... but you can hand train them to eat and they make great pets, but can become possessive and mean. Scroll up/down on this thread and you'll find a post I made with a link to sounds of chickens. lol :D

Thank you for that information also :rose:

It's just one hen, companion of a (possibly) crazy old man my main character meets. I want to give her quite a bit of personality, so I'll need all kinds of words to describe her.

It is realistic to say that she lays an egg for him every morning? I know not all chickens do that every day, but is it feasible to say this one would?

Yes, a hen can lay an egg every day for several days, it's called a clutch. She'll then take a break and not lay any for a few days, then lay another clutch.

Yeah, I just listened to those :) They do set the mood for this scene quite nicely, actually.

Great. :)

As a kid it was my job to gather the eggs every morning from the chicken coop. We had one main Rooster that was the big cheese of the harem and one day I was too sick to do my chores, so my dad sent my older sister out. The rooster attacked her and my dad didn't believe it, so he sent the other sister out. She got chased out too. So dad went to do the chore. . .Yep, the rooster went after him. Dad told me later that he had to kill the Rooster and he buried it under a tree in the field. Of course... now that I am an adult and my dad confessed to me the truth, it seems we ate the Rooster after he attacked my dad! lol...But we did that to a bunny rabbit we raised too after it bit me. Moral to the story...

Never bite the hand that feeds you. ;)
