Yeah, that's what I figured. When I first saw the remastered Exorcist with the extra footage, that scene jumped right out at me. there was so much tension and fear and wonder, then . . . bam! Regan comes crawling down the stairs spitting blood.

Darn it, i wanted to be scared, too.
