S was talking to her and had her on speakerphone, which she didn't realize, so I heard part of what she said to him.

Basically she was telling him the list of every one of her acquaintances that she'd asked to pray for my soul. Since I'm so determined to go to hell and all. Apparently, now his entire home town knows not only that I'm agnostic, but also the fact that I "bullied" him into having sex before marriage and I "bullied" him into marrying me just so I could get a green card.

This stuff is none of anyone's business but mine and S. And most of it is just plain wrong. Last time I went home with him to visit, people were already talking about me. Now that she's spreading rumors on top of it, I really don't want to go back.

Thank you. Yes, S has always been defending me in all this. It almost bothers him more than me, because he has been hoping for so long that his mother will warm up to me. I've kind of given up on her. I keep being polite and biting my tongue and all, but that doesn't seem to be enough. In her mind I'm the horrible person who steered her son from the right path.

I mean, she invited us for dinner and failed to mention that his ex girlfriend of four years was invited too. Then she kept encouraging people over dinner to tell certain anecdotes that just happened to also be a reminder of how happy the two of them used to be together. She does shit like that all the time.
