Post, write, edit. Offer to read when people ask for an opinion 'on their crap'. Comment on Story Discussion Circle until you have enough confidence to ask for a critique on your own writing. Be judiciously flirtatious, if that's your thing.

Well, it's official. I'm pathetic.

I don't consider myself that good of a writer but I put my stuff out there anyways. Why? Because the only way to improve is to just do it and take the criticism with an open mind. That doesn't make me pathetic, as your predicament does not make you pathetic.

As for making friends just post and respond to people, though I personally stay away from the political threads because of my temper and inclination to post something before I think when it comes to that kind of thing, lol.

Best of luck, hang in there and be patient and I'm sure you'll find your niche.

The best way is probably just to post and be friendly I noticed that someone else mentioned that they tend to avoid the political threads... I think it's a policy that I might impose upon myself too.

Everyone here has been incredibly friendly and welcoming to me (twice!) and so I'm sure that you will find the same, without ever feeling the need to push.

And no... being uncertain isn't pathetic at all. It's natural!

Erm... the best shortening I've founds so far is "ege" with a soft "g". Though "egg" seems to be popular here

As to rocking the boat... I wondered about that when I joined, and even more so when I came back. It's like that with every community.

I think there are different reasons. . .some simply don't like a category, or they don't like the writer in general, other things I really feel it is because a person doesn't want to lose their standing. Recently I've picked up a personal troll, I'm sure of it and even suspect I know who it is. Every poem and story now I submit is immediately flooded with 1's. The stories will recover; the poems never will.
