we wanna know.

It's probably only interesting to me, but okay.

I happened to notice, in the list of people currently online, a poster who shares a username with the title and eponymous character of an opera by Puccini. According to their profile, they registered three days ago and made their first post that same day—at which time I was, coincidentally, listening to that very opera by Puccini.

I'd kill to see Stonehenge up close.

You would probably have to kill to see Stonehenge up close.

On my first trip there as a child you could climb all over the stones, it was great fun at the time. I was about 10. There were no restrictions and no entry fee.

Nowadays it's fenced off so that you can only see it from a distance, and you have to pay - £30 for a family. Not the best value for money tourist destination.

Behind a fence is still a hell of a lot closer than I'll ever get!

I need an alt so i can say things that I wouldnt be able to as me myself and irenie. Sometimes you need to just be able to get things off your chest without worrying about the fallout if someone read it. :p

True, but just for the day.

On my last trip there I noticed that the tourists were subdued. The view was terrible, the cost prohibitive, and interaction impossible. The best part was the gift shop - the same as gift shops everywhere. The Stonehenge visitor centre was a disappointment. You would get more by Googling.

 The party that went on at stonehenge in my dreams last night (or rather this morning) would have made it more interesting.

The image this conjures up is wonderful. :p

I've always wanted to see Stonehenge myself, the closest I've ever gotten is America's Stondhenge where I live and that's probably the closest I'll ever get. But being a Wiccan if I went I'd try to arrange it during a solstice so I could get closer. Then again there are a lot of historical places that I would love to see, though I probably will never get the chance. The pyramids are top on my list (Egypt in general) but unfortunately that's even less of a possibility than Stonehenge...*sighs*

The Pyramids are truly staggering, and so much closer to Cairo than one thinks.
We took a camel ride to see them. It took longer to get on the camel than it did to get to the Pyramids.

Take a sponge if you go inside. It's a wee bit hot and humid.

This is very sad.

When I was in Scotland we stopped by a small stone circle. It looked like it was on somebody's farm, right near the road. No fence, no nothing. I liked that.

I need to go back to Scotland.
