First, thank you everyone for thinking of him, praying for him, and sending healing thoughts out for him. Last night he underwent surgery and they wired his jaw shut, thankfully his wisdom teeth held his jaw in, or it could have been worse. It is a large gapping fracture that they wired. He will be on a liquid diet for six weeks and then pureed foods for 6 mths after. The wires (if all looks good) will be removed after 6 weeks. Then he will have to wear a brace for 6 mths.
I can't imagine the pain he's in or how hard the next months are going to be for him, his sister (my niece) and his mom (my sister). Please continue to think of them every now in then. They will all need strength, patience, and lots of love to get them through the next few weeks/mths.
I especially hope he stays otherwise healthy. If he gets the flu, or a stomach virus, or just has to vomit because of something. . .she (my sister) has to wire cut his jaw free so he can expel whatever he may need to. Hopefully this is something he will never have to do over the next 6 weeks.![]()
My Husband . . .
This morning I got a call from him at 5 am. He'd gone into work, though he wasn't scheduled, to cover a guy who'd gotten hurt. So he's working 9pm-9am. . .but I get this call, he sounds calm. "Honey, I've been hurt and am going up to the hospital. A machine chewed up a couple fingers." So I get up and wake the eldest, then head to the hospital.
Once there, the ER doctor talked with me and told me the tip of his left index finger's bone was shattered. They were going to send him to another hospital where the Orthopedic specialist would likely amputate from the first knuckle up. The middle finger was deeply lacerated, but looked to be intact.
After spending a couple hours at the hospital, his pain finally under control, I transported him to the surgeon's operating offices. There he underwent surgery about just over an hour. They stitched the laceration and then were able to save the finger's knuckle and tip, though he will have no use of the tip at all. All but one tendon was chewed gone, so the doctor did reattach the one tendon.
My husband had been working a machine that's belts got stuck. He radioed up for them to shut the machine down. They did. He worked the belts and cleaned up the machine, then told them to start it up. The belts worked, then stopped, so he thought he'd help out and tried to jerk the belt into moving. After a few quick tugs, the belts took off, very quickly, taking his glove and fingers into the gears. He was able to reach with his other hand and disconnect the machine. Saving his hand. He will be on restrictive duty, light work, meaning office work, days now from 9-5 (Mon. - Fri.)
So I just ask for continued thoughts for my nephew, his family and now please add my husband to your thoughts and prayers too.Thank you.
