Labels (of any kind) have the potential to be abused. *shrug* It's all what you make of it.

That is a rather more serious response than I was expecting (though I am a founding member of the Society of Persons Who Often Respond to Things Which Are Obviously Jokes in a Serious Manner, and Occasionally Respond to Things Which are Not Jokes in Any Way in a Manner Somewhat Less Serious Than Their Nature Might Reasonably Be Thought to Require). I do agree, although my dislike of the terminology, at least relating to "bean", is primarily æsthetic, and, not relating to "bean", etymological.

Well, technically, I said it was amusing, not that I was amused. ;)

Oh, I'm just someone who enjoys poking people with a sharp stick. ;)

*ponders the æsthetic of words* To which of the senses are you applying your judgment?

I do enjoy destroying hope.

Hearing primarily, I object to the sounds of the words, but secondarily vision (in part on account of the plainness, however effective, of the Latin alphabet). Now, were it pronounced /bian/, it would be a bit more pleasing to the ear, and bian seems to me lovelier to the eye.

What about bæn? *poke*

Now, that would be pronounced quite differently. Of course, in American English, it would likely end up being shortened to "ben"—and that's no good.

Edited (as it was late in occurring to me) to add: Interestingly, from a comparative standpoint, this is all very alike the Irish word for woman, bean, pronounced /bʲan/ (a palatalised voiced bilabial plosive followed by an open front unrounded vowel and then an alveolar nasal).

I love the poetry from classic songs like those - the one I wrote there. Just a couplet, and they manage to say so much. Such mastery.

 yes they do. Beautiful they are. I want to share this with everyone but they'd never understand. *sigh* i wish they could. It's not just about a translation though, is it? it's much more. :rose:

I'm so glad someone finally understand how it is when I struggle when I try to translate and why I feel so inadequate even after doing it the best way I can... *hugs*

There is of course someone who tries to understand isnt there? i love the response i get when ive sent a new song. It makes it all worthwhile...all those annoying feelings of not being able to make everyone understand. She makes up for that in a heartbeat. :rose:

I heard the snow plow, and I feared fro my car. I have no proof, but I am quite sure that the plow was what put that dent in my car last year. I was about to jump up and watch him plow, to make sure my car came out unscathed, just to remember that my car is in the shop receiving new tires and repairs to the clutch.

Yikes. . .out of all the things you want for your birthday. . .You can't seem to find the stuff at the regular stores. . .I have to shop online again!! (Eight is such a trying age) . lol.

Found this poem that got me thinking

The time will come
When with elation
You will greet yourself arriving
At your own door, in your own mirror
And each will smile at the other's welcome
And say sit here, eat.

You will love again the stranger who was yourself
Give wine, give bread, give back your heart
To itself, to the stranger who has loved you
All your life whom you ignored
For another, who knows you by heart.

Take down the letters from the bookshelf
The photographs, the desperate notes
Peel your own image from teh mirror
Sit. Feast on life.
