I was looking through some old notes today, for revision purposes and i came across some of my old Religious Studies notes from my Alevels (for some reason they were mixed with my Psych notes...). Neways i was having a read and it was interesting.

Usually for the Alevels, you concentrate on Christianity in depth (being in a country that has a rich history of Christianity) Or even Islam considering the controversy. However our head of faculty decided it would be really nice to cover Judaism for the whole two years. Now, i remember that at first i was sceptical about the prospects of this, but as the course wore on i was sucked in.

The amusing thing is, we were meant to visit a Synagogue but we never did, that and we were kinda learning blind. We werent at a Jewish school, it was a normal state school. That and i had never known anyone Jewish to lobby questions at (for my educational purposes). I had a good friend at uni now, who is Jewish and it's very interesting to be able to ask her my q's, when i couldnt before.

When we were sitting our exams i was confident in what i had learnt- i scored fantastically, but now, i'll be damned if i remember much. I found the early history as well as specific festivals to be the most intrigueing aspects of the course. Reading scripture though intrcately involved was for me somewhat laborious- though i did very much enjoy some books of the Old Testament.

I remember when my little sister was born- i had about 2 hours sleep and rushed into college just so i could tell everyone, we had an RS lesson 1st thing- double. It was Rosh Hashanah that day, and so we conducted the lesson whilst eating apples and honey :D Another time we all build mini Sukkah's for Sukkot which was so lovely. Another time we had pita bread and humous- i think the pita bread counts as Chalah? i dont know...but i think that was the aim of the excersise.

Neways, i'm an inquisitive person, and i like to talk a lot...and so i just wanted to talk about my experience learnign about Judaism. I found it very interesting, and im glad i did continue with the course. I also find it much...more enlightening now to be able to ask my questiosn to my friend, its a shame i wasnt able to ask anyone when i was learning. it's also a shame we didn't get to go to the Synagogue in those 2 years, i've never seen one and so it would have been a nice experience.

I kinda feel proud that i can spot a Yarmulke/ Kippah and know what it is. And that i can see a Hassid and also understnad what a Hassid is :) And Tefillin...and The Mishnah, Gemarah, Tanakh...Talmud...

wow its all coming back to me :D

I Have to say however, i know more about Islam and Judaism than i do about the religion my family adheres to...how odd. i know next to NOTHING about Hinduism...its a shame really...
