A young girl (17ish) came into my Patisserie some years ago begging for a job - said she wanted to work for a year before going on to University, her mother was a regular customer. I gave her the job because I knew I had staff leaving at the end of the summer, she would learn the job with them, good deal all round.

Come the end of the summer, she left... to go to University. I challenged her about what she'd told me when starting, she told me 'her Mum told her to lie otherwise I might not have given her the job'.

I banned her Mum from my shop, told her in front of other customers that encouraging a child to lie is just plain wrong.

I know it sucks, but good for you for being honest.
