Just because something cost a lot, and looks pretty
doesn't mean it's not still a piece of crap.

I just bought a costly, shiny new tea kettle to replace my $5 cheapie aluminum one from Wal Mart and I hate it because it's so heavy and you have to almost turn it upside down to get the water out. [/whine]

I have an electric kettle (bought at Wal-Mart) that heats up in 5 minutes, is light and easy to use, and cost about $25. We had to have it when we came back from England, because there they have such a kettle everywhere and we got VERY spoiled by it.

Those English -- they may put yogurt on grapefruit and deepfry toast, but, damn, they know about kettles!

Deepfry toast? And they're supposed to be healthier and longer-lived than people in the US? Damn!

We saw it. Triangles of bread fried until they curled up and heaped in a big pan, and people at this resort hotel would put them on a plate, take them to a table, and EAT them.

I tried one. Never, Ever, Ever again...

I don't have room on my counter for another appliance and besides, I like kettles. Just not this one.

they deep fry taters, toast and fish... but the rest of the time they eat indian and tai (have you walked the streets of london lately?!? there are NO british restaurants any longer... of course, "british cuisine" is an oxymoron)

the problem with american health is "too much of a good thing"... we have so much food that we just can't stop eating it... and the only affordable food that can be obtained on the run is... well... like a heavier, fatladened deep fried toast, but we call it deep dish personal pan pizzas, KFC, Mickie Dees, etc.

but yes, I was there, it was terrifying.

*subliminal message* Come to Greece... our food is among the healthiest in the world... fresh fruits, vegetables and seafood that's caught just moments before it's served... baklava! Okay, not the last one. ;)

Ouzo. I want to try ouzo one day.

Ouzo is uber-powerful stuff. 150 proof. It's traditionally served mixed with water (because it's way too strong otherwise), yet I wake up with a hangover regardless.
