I'm not bothering you. What the fuck is your problem?

You don't like me? Cool. I don't like you either. We have an understanding.

You misunderstand, I believe this board to be a quieter place when you don't contribute to any of my threads.

I'll never kowtow to you, and I really have no interest in anything you have to say. Its not a matter of liking or disliking you. It's actually a matter of your absolute insignificance to me.

Oh, and this applies to your alts as well.

I have one alt, Sherry Hawk, that everyone knows. If you don't like me, sweetcheeks, put me on ignore. I don't kowtow to you, either, no matter how much you'd like me to.

get it? I don't give a fuck what you "believe."

Fuck off.

I didn't realize this thread belonged to you, Rhys

Why are you so nasty today? Is it that time of the month?

There are also many options for telecommuting and self-employment from home.

I taught myself to develop basic web pages -- and can make a fair chunk of change doing that for local businesses. There are no startup costs & you can work at whatever hour of the day best suits your schedule.

As prolific as you are, you could do the custom story bit (like EL was doing on eBay).

You could submit your work to a publisher -- especially short stories to ePublishers. Start with the short story eBooks at $2 per download (of which you make 40-50%). Get a couple dozen of them under your belt. You're certainly good enough -- and better than some paid authors I've read.

People pay pretty well for clothing alterations, if you're skilled in that way. Hemming men's dress slacks is easy -- and a seemingly (seamingly *snicker*) endless chore. (Plus, if you insist on a fitting, you might meet some interesting men!)

All sorts of options, really. Just takes a little creativity & resourcefulness. Don't sell yourself short.

Thank you for that. It was a wonderful bright spot in a really awful day.

As far as the working from home thing... I have plans to get an ebay business up and running (I've sold clothes the kids outgrow and other items we don't need use since my oldest was a baby, so I started about 8 years ago). The problem at the moment is having the capital to buy the stock I need. I've also heard it takes around a year before you really start to see much of a profit from it, so it's not going to be a quick fix. I do have a list of wholesalers, etc, so at least that's sort of a start.

Unfortunately, I don't sew... or at least, not well enough to get paid for it, lol.

If I had the money to go back to school and take one class, I could get my teacher's license renewed.... which would solve the problem if I could get hired after not working for 6 years. That is something I need to check into... to see what the payment terms are for our local community college (yes, surprisingly, as small as our town is, we actually have one of those.)

Thanks for all the kind and supportive words. Unfortunately, there's no quick solution, but maybe things will fall into place if I can just bide my time for awhile.

If you really want to do that, go talk to the admissions office about financial aid. You should be eligible for pell grants, which would be more than enough to cover that one class.

From the little research I've done so far, I've read that I'm not eligible for grants because I've already got a 4 year degree. (I believe I read that on the FAFSA website...). I'm not sure about state funding though. We have the lottery now that funds state financial aid. That's something I can check into after the kids start back to school next week.

I really don't want to go back to teaching, but I may not have a choice.

Are you trying to prove to everyone that you truely are illiterate? No? Good. I think its quite obvious that this is not my thread. I was, oh obtuse one, refering to her remarks in my "I'm thinking of pulling them all" thread.

You see, Cloudy has targeted me since I came on to this board full time. I am aware of her snide remarks and veiled (and not so veiled) insults. Although, a while back, I believe she let herself to be convinced to put me on ignore. I should have stayed there and she would look less the hypocrite, but once again...

The truth of the matter is simple, and I think she can appreciate this quotation.
When we show respect for other living things, they show respect for us~Arapaho

Also, while this is attributed to the Sioux/Lakota, I am not sure who said it first. A Wise man does not fight with someone crazier than himself

oooohhhh... Gotcha.

There are also grants available for non-traditional students that you -should- be eligible for, despite having a degree. The community college might have aid especially for people in your situation. If you can find a counsellor there that you like, try explaining to them that you're needing to finish your education so you can get out of a bad relationship and still be able to support your children. They might be able to point you in directions neither one of us could ever think of. Also check into on campus child care. Sometimes it's offered to students for little or no cost - covered by tuition.

If you know what field you would like to go into now, instead of teaching, you might want to check into financial aid geared specifically for that area, instead of just the general stuff. You might be surprised what you can find.

You really are full of yourself, aren't you?

Sheesh.

Put me on ignore, hun. You'll be much happier.

Oh, and don't tell me what to do. It doesnt' work, mm-kay?

(and you misspelled "truly")

What do you teach and what is the need in your location? If you are science or math, of course, you'll have many openings from which to choose.

You could easily get a temporary certificate and start the school year. You can take the class(es) to get certified during the year, many of which are offered on-line or weekends. (My husband updates his certificate while taking two Saturday classes for one credit hour.)

At last resort you could get a substitute certificate. At the elementary level you'd probably have work every day (the problem there is unless it is a long-term job there are no benefits).

Teaching is a terrific way to handle child-care issues. You'll be home when the kids are home, usually, so that eliminates the need for those extra dollars during vacation times.

I just read your post about Pell grants. Yes, you are ineligible for grant money because you already have an undergraduate degree. Do you have a Master's? In certain states you don't have as many hoops to traverse for recertification if you have a graduate degree.

You have some options, but I don't envy you your situation. Best wishes to you.

I'm not sure what else I would do. As far as the teaching goes, I only need one class. When I quit work to have the twins, my license expired. To get it renewed, I only need one class that is worth 3 semester hours.

My license is for elementary... K-8. I prefer 5th or below but would take whatever.

I'm not sure about the temporary certificate. I have already taught two years, but what I had expired. I haven't seen anything on the state education website about being able to teach before having the license renewed. For the kind of license I have, it takes 45 points to renew it. 1 semester hour is worth 15 points. Once I get it renewed, I believe I only have to teach one more year before getting bumped up to the next license grouping. That license is good for 10 years.

I just have a Bachelor's degree.

I picked that quote for a reason, also knowing that someone would make this connection.

I don't have to respect you. Very few of you have actually earned my respect. But, I was met with complete hostility when I came here, so why should I care?

I'm really starting to believe that this place is some psych doctoral candidate's dissertation research.

Damn. You caught me.

I feel like an experiment in some petry dish and I'm just on little ole molecule floating around in a universe of molecules.

Something about it reminds me of the ending of "The Herne's Egg." I'm sure if I think on it, I'll remember why.
