Came in second at the end-of-season bar poker championship last night. I really wanted that trophy, and the $50 gift card that came with it. hell, I wouldn't mind getting the woman that came in first ;) I think I get free appetizers next week though 9and a t-shirt that I will give to my father), so not a total loss.

Looks like it is going to rain soon. Dark skies and thundering pretty good. I was going to walk to lunch today...

Yep, there goes the rain, and the lightning/thunder is definitely closer, louder, and more frequent than before.

And it's gone...

And Pandora needs to stop playing bad punk instead of metal. I tell it to play me two bands that have punk influences and all of a sudden I want to hear bad punk bands? I don't think so...

Baltimore Maryland is NOT within 25 miles of where I am in New Jersey, stupid dating site...

eBay thinks that 50 miles from my location is 50 miles as a crow flies ignoring the Thames estuary. If I set the distance as 100 miles eBay will include Belgium and France...

I am in northern New Jersey along the New York boarder. The driving route is actually almost a straight line, so the estimate of 209 miles is actually very close to the fly-by mileage. It's not 25 miles by any stretch of anything. Heck, I don't even know if any part of New Jersey is 25 miles away from any part of Baltimore...

One recurring item of the spam I receive is an advert for a Hindu dating site.

They show head and shoulders pictures of Hindu women "close to your home". This week the 'nearby' matches have included Sydney, Australia; Singapore; Hong Kong and Stockholm. OK, there are a few in the West Midlands but the majority are thousands of miles away.

Maybe they daren't show the pictures of those in Kent?

Kids, dogs and rabbits ran free. We had acres and acres of woods and fields and streams. We fished for crawdads and minnows. We drank out of the garden hose. We camped in the woods. We cut down trees and had campfires. We smoked cigarettes in the woods. We had tree forts and we followed the old railroad right-of-way down to its junction with the lakeside tracks. We heard tales that the caves had been used by runaway slaves. We scared each other with rumors that residents of the nearby insane asylum had escaped and were at large. We rounded up the cows that had broken loose from their pasture. We sucked the nectar from the honeysuckle blossoms. We staged World War II battles. We shot each other with our B-B and pellet guns. We reduced the starling population with those same weapons and shot pigeons in the barn. We threw knives and attempted to dam the stream. We tried to puzzle out the mystery of all those enormous downed cedar trees and the abandoned dam.

It was the maddest, damndest, gladdest existence ever known to mortal youth.

Just back from the wedding. Had fun, mostly. And before anyone starts in on the woman situation, almost every woman there was married. The ones that weren't were already there with boyfriends.

Another cop at the building next door. He left his car sitting in the parking lot for the past half hour. Bad enough the headlights lit up the whole yard. But to listen to the cooling fan kick off and on every few minutes was annoying as hell. :(

*giggles* Why do people insist on asking day after your birthday if you feel any different? Ummm, should I feel different after one day? Well have bit of a headache but that is hayfever not age. I'm just going to keep laughing at them... besides I have a hawt ass so who cares about the age of it?:cattail:

It's the 135th anniversary of the Battle of the Little Bighorn.

Like many others, I have a long fascination with it. Beginning with Evan Connell's Son Of The Morning Star and continuing with— among others— Dee Brown's Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, Steven Ambrose's Crazy Horse and Custer, Robert Utley's The Lance and the Shield, James Donovan's A Terrible Glory and on to Nathaniel Philbrick's The Last Stand, I've read a lot about it and the participants. One of these days, I'll visit the site.

She hit the riprap surrounding one of the Bridge-Tunnel's islands doing about 14 knots. One of the crew suffered a compound fracture. Several others were hospitalized. The helmsman struck the steering pedestal so hard it was wholly uprooted. Why her keel wasn't entirely ripped off the hull and the vessel sunk is anybody's guess.

We'll have a look at her tomorrow.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Peter Faulk died the other day. I always liked Columbo, even though he was such an asshole. "Just one more thing..." No, no more questions for you, sir. :(

Oh boo, that is sad.

To me, he'll always be the grandfather from the Princess Bride who just happened to be in the reruns my mother watched. :)

Just received from a paid editing gig:

"Hi-
You did a thorough job. Let J. know your hours.
-P"

Eh? Is that, "thanks for being so thorough; your changes and suggestions really helped," or, "when I asked you to edit I had no idea you were going to take such a fucking long time and be so nit-picky?"

Sometimes I really hate ambiguity.
