Isolated Blurt Thread

Thank you everyone. I needed that.

__

I was sitting here in my stuffy office wondering why I was so ready to fall asleep only 90 minutes after getting here this morning even though I got a good night sleep last night, when it suddenly hits me. There isn't any air circulation in here. I forgot to turn on the air conditioning this morning. That has since been rectified.

Nope. I still have no idea how to make myself look desirable when emailing a woman on a dating site...

I will have the house to myself all weekend while the family is in Washington D.C. I will be so bored by the end of it, I'm sure...

You have no idea....I would absolutely kill to have an entire weekend in the house by myself.

I'm jealous.

I am so sick of driving through downtown Patterson, New Jersey. That place is a hellhole...

Toodle pip

bedtime for me I think!
Isolated Blurt Thread
A few months ago I noticed something on the General Board that I think has some merit (will wonders never cease?!) It was a thread called "The Isolated Blurt Thread." In this thread anyone could type anything they wanted, a word, a sentence, whatever. I realized it must be a cathartic kind of thing, to be able to blurt out what the hell ever you want whenever you want (I envy ChilledVodka for this.) So I'm starting an AH version of the Blurt Thread.

Use and enjoy, and may the Force be with you.

When Queen Victoria asked Albert to marry her, she swore that she would love him until her last dying breath. 21 years later, he died at the age of 42. For the rest of her reign, she wore black, and she had his clothes laid out for him each morning of her life.

Sometimes love is beautiful.

Doing Shakespeare

On Friday we visited Stratford on Avon, doing the Shakespeare thing.

We visited Shakespeare's Birthplace, including an exhibition about Shakespeare's women; the archaelogical dig of New Hall, the large house he bought and in which he died; his son-in-law's (Dr. Hall) house; and the church in which he was buried.

But the lasting impression was Shakespeare's words, recorded by some of the greatest exponents of Shakespeare in the entrance exhibition to the Birthplace; and spoken by a re-enactor in the bedroom in which Shakespeare was born.

Another highlight was an extended one-to-one discussion with the curators of the exhibition on Shakespeare's women about differences in interpretation of some of the roles.

The various sites were not crowded, perhaps because it was late on Friday afternoon, and we were able to talk to the staff at each site, all of whom were very knowledgable about Shakespeare, and willing to share their knowledge at length.

Earlier in the week we had visited Warwick Castle. I hadn't expected to enjoy it as much as I did because Warwick Castle is run by the same organisation that owns Madame Tussauds' waxworks and a new addition to the castle is the "Princess Tower" where small girls can dress up as Princesses (Disney-style) and behave like little Madams.

However we had a personal tour of the Great Hall and State rooms by a reenactor dressed as the Countess of Warwick. Once she had realised that we knew some of the history, she departed from her simple script to explain far more than we could have gained from the guide book or a walk round.

The other re-enactors were equally good. I discussed archery, bow-making, fletching and the advantages and disadvantages of long bows, recurved bows and types of crossbows with an actor dressed as an archer. He knew his subject and could demonstrate not just archery but other medieval weaponry in detail.

The miller talked about the best kind of stone to make millstones and how to prepare and dress the stones, and why wind and watermills became redundant despite free motive power (modern wheat strains have harder grains than earlier ones).

I enjoyed our holiday, starting with two days to myself to visit car and motorcycle museums while my wife was at a conference.

Now I have to get back to my normal role as a thorn in the side of our local City Hall.

Family is back from D.C. and I am no longer lonely. Well, I could still use some female company, but that isn't going to happen now is it? Thought not...

Seriously, YouTube. I just want to log in to my account so I can access my playlist. Is that so hard?
