Now, if they treated the subject and object of transitive verbs the same and treated the subject of intransitive verbs, having no object, differently that would be one thing, or if they, like nominative-accusative languages, treated subjects, regardless of the verb type, the same and different from objects that would be fine, but treating the subject of transitive verbs different from the subject of intransitive verbs and treating the object of transitive verbs the same as the subject of intransitive verbs, well that's just silly.

And if the language has morphological case, then the direct object is marked with a case conventionally known as accusative, while the subject is marked with another case called nominative. If there's no case marking, the language can resort to word order (for example, the subject comes before the verb and the object comes after it, as in English), neh?
