You're too precious, you know that?
you

you are bubble toes.
Jack Johnson - Bubble Toes Lyrics

It's as simple as something that nobody knows that her eyes are as big
as her bubbly toes
on the feet of a queen of the hearts of the cards and her feet are all
covered with tar balls and scars
It's as common as something that nobody knows that her beauty will
follow wherever she goes
up the hill in the back of her house in the would she love me forever,
I know she could

I remember when you and me mmm how we used to be just good friends
Wouldn't give me none
But all I wanted was some
She's got a whole lot of reasons
She cant think of a single one
That can justify leaving
and he got none but he thinks he got so many problems
Man he got, too much time to waste

His dreams are like commercials
But her dreams are picture perfect and
Our dreams are so related though they're often underestimated

It's as simple as something that nobody knows that
Her eyes are as big as her bubbly toes
On the feet of the queen of the hearts of the cards
And her feet are infested with tar balls and

La da da da da da

Well I was eating lunch at the D. L. G.
When this little girl came and she sat next to me
I never seen nobody move the way she did
Well she did and she does and she'll do it again

When you move like a jellyfish
Rhythm don't mean nothing
You go with the flow
You don't stop
Move like a jellyfish
Rhythm is nothing
You go with the flow
You don't stop

It's as common as something that nobody knows it
Her beauty will follow wherever she goes
Up the hill in the back of her house in the wood
She'll love me forever, I know she

La da da da da da

If you would only listen
You might just realize what you're missing
You're missing me
If you would only listen
You might just realize what you're missing
You're missing me

It's as simple as something that nobody knows that
Her eyes are as big as her bubbly toes
On the feet of the queen of the hearts of the cards
And her feet are infested with tar balls and

La da da da da da

minus those tar balls, obviously.
i keese you

I absolutely refuse to let the ignorance of one person, no matter how intelligent they may seem, turn me away from a community I adore.

Thanks, darlin'.

even if it does hurt to be told, once again, that I come from a "proto-civilization."

Well you don't, and anyone who says so is a moron (I had another word I wanted to use, but wanted to keep the post clean). :)

Now, what is supposed to be a "proto-civilization", anyway? Or is this a fancy way of saying that a civilization doesn't quite meet the culturally prejudiced standards of another civilization. Well, by that standard, the Crusaders came from "proto" civilizations, compared to the ancestors of the Arab side of my family. Bon Dieu!

I'm an uncivilized savage, it seems.

I'm sure I'll hear shortly that we were cannibals and that we test lower than caucasians on IQ tests.

I'm only half-Caucasian. Does that affect my IQ scores, then?

I gather that you're a Native American. Weren't there several major civilizations that were, such as Aztec, Maya, Toltec, and Inca, not to mention the Iroquois, the Huron, and the Alqonquian, who were fairly civilized, from what I have read? Just my understanding of it.

I wouldn't exactly call Joseph Brant a savage, for instance. Or Massasoit, for that matter.

I'm being very, very sarcastic.

Of course we were/are civilized, it's just that some have to put others down to play to their own little superiority problems.

The best part about Monday is that my local coffee stop has 99 cent mochas.

...and since you appreciate them, it makes Monday nice for the barista's too...

"Think she'll be in today?"

"99 cent mochas dude! Oh yeah, the hottie will show!"

I am well-groomed and work in a most conservative profession. I have a degree with a double major and I graduated from a fine university with a 3.48 GPA. I am a respected member of the community.

I am also a savage.

They shouldn't call you uncivilized, my dear...I shall have to take the claymore off the wall and demonstrate that it is more than decorative.

But stay savage with me.

Yes, sounds like some full-blooded Frenchmen that I have known. Looking down at their noses and muttering about how I am a "half-breed" or something to that effect under their breath. There is still a bit of anti-Arabic bias in Europe, as well as anti-Semitic (although we Arabs are technically Semites, too). Never mind that Lebanon is a crossroads of European and Arabic cultures, and has been a very cosmopolitan country in most ways. Never mind that civilization has existed in that part of the world which invented the alphabet (the Phoenicians, anyone).

So I can relate to that, madame. It's poorly concealed racism, nothing more.

Always, darlin'.

In fact, I just proved how savage I can be.

Well, maybe not. I could have been much worse.

Indeed.

Thank you. :rose:

Well, when one experiences it, there is little room for doubt. Thank God (if he exists) that my French relatives, whatever their flaws, embraced and accepted me as one of their own, despite my Lebanese father.

You're very welcome, madame. :rose:

No, it was an inelegant and erroneous way of referring to an early neolithic civilization. The context was a discussion about the relative sophistication of art, and my statement that a civiliation that's been around for 5,000+ plus years produces art that is more sophisticated than ones that existed for less than 1,500 years, specifically the pre-Colombian ones. This was taken as an ethnic slur.

The Crusaders were only a few generations from their Dark Age barbarian ancestors, and had only the thinest and most fragile veneer of civilization.

Well, speaking from the viewpoint of one who has been put his foot in his mouth a few times, one must be careful with certain terms. Not to avoid candor, but certain phrases are like what you Americans call "hot potatoes". Just a word of advice. It comes across as racism at times, madamoiselle.

As one with Arab blood, I can understand higher sensitivity to racial slurs or even perceived ones. Just a note of caution for future reference.

I know I can be overly sensitive, but that comes from being told, over and over again, that you come from people who were "primitive" and "uncivilized."

I resent the hell out of it, especially when it comes from someone who hasn't bothered to get to know the civilization in question.

Precisely. That resentment builds up over time, from constant ridicule and insults to your culture. :rose:

I accept that, and you are kind to say it in such a gentle manner.

I also accept what Cloudy says about the the pain of being the victim of malicious statements in the past, and feel her pain. And I admire her for acknowledging that she can be oversensitive.

I think we are working it out.

Poor Yev, he unwittingly finds himself in the middle of a pissing contest that was imported from another thread. And plays the role of mediator with dignity and aplomb. :rose:
