It's like a virtual waiting room. Every now and then a nurse comes in and there's silence while everyone listens. We get punchy from time to time and talk and laugh about rolling cigars and stuff. We're like a family.

The disco song "We Are Family" is one of my favorite songs ever; for years if I heard it in a nightclub, I would rush to dance to it, The high proportion of women here makes it singularly appropriate.

I'm one of those life-begins-at-conception types who desperately feels for every unborn child, mostly due to cases like this. I hope she (Vana's new daughter) will get to have a name and the doctors can help make her well and healthy. I am worried about Vana too and hope she can recover quckly, both physically and from the trauma. If it's any consolation, I recently wrote an article on a librarian who had her child more than two months prematurely, and the baby got the best care and eventually went home well. I'm hoping so much for a repeat of that artkcle. I know another woman who gave birth to twin boys even sooner and they are still alive, although the health issues are serious. I'm hoping for even better for Vana and her little one.

It's still raining. I think western Washington is going to float away in the Pacific. I think that would make Cali people happy. ;)

But as an allergy sufferer, I secretly love it. I can finally breathe!
