Another language? And I love Christina Rossetti's work! :)

Not a another language this time (you remembered! or I now seem mad), just random things I was listening to (an Aeolian harp and a poem set to music).

I too adore Christina Rossetti's work, she is one of my absolute favourite poets. Most recently, I have been enamoured of Mirage:

The hope I dreamed of was a dream,
Was but a dream; and now I wake
Exceeding comfortless, and worn, and old,
For a dream's sake.

I hang my harp upon a tree,
A weeping willow in a lake;
I hang my silenced harp there, wrung and snapt
For a dream's sake.

Lie still, lie still, my breaking heart;
My silent heart, lie still and break:
Life, and the world, and mine own self, are changed
For a dream's sake.

No, you're not mad. :)

My favorite piece is "A Birthday":

My heart is like a singing bird
Whose nest is in a water'd shoot;
My heart is like an apple-tree
Whose boughs are bent with thick-set fruit;
My heart is like a rainbow shell
That paddles in a halcyon sea;
My heart is gladder than all these,
Because my love is come to me.

Raise me a daïs of silk and down;
Hang it with vair and purple dyes;
Carve it in doves and pomegranates,
And peacocks with a hundred eyes;
Work it in gold and silver grapes,
In leaves and silver fleurs-de-lys;
Because the birthday of my life
Is come, my love is come to me.

Good to know. Silbo, the Canary Islands whistling language. ;)

I am quite fond of that one as well; I don't know if I have an overall favourite, but I have been very much in a Rossetti mood of late.
