Chris, I find the question of are Allah and Yahweh the "same god" to be a sterile one that fundamentally makes no sense (and I think I differ from Catholic doctrine in that regard). But for those who think the question has merit, I can only say the two faiths, Christianity and Islam, describe very different deities. Yes, Islam incorporated some of the trappings of Judaism and Christianity, but it created a most grotesque understanding of those religions (don't you know, Jews claim "Ezra" is the Son of God- no, Jews claim no such thing, and the videa that God had a Son who walked the earth is the central dividing point between Judaism and Christianity).

From a Christian perspective, Satan is a fallen angel who took it upon himself to defy God. I won't speak for the Jewish concept of the devil, but theery Islamic concept has nothing in common with this central doctrine of Christianity. What is the Islamic "Saytan?" Was this Saytan a "jinn", some sort of puckish desert sprite? I submit nobody knows.

One of the most practical illustrations of the difference between Christianity and Islam concerns Jesus's and Mohammad's treatment of the "fallen woman". Jesus told the assembled crowd, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Mohammad had the unfortunate woman stoned to death after her baby was weaned. Sorry, those are not "two different interpretations" of the "same god".

As for Islam bring a violent religion, it isn't really. If you have a brain and a knowledge of history, go back 1400+ years ago and look at how things were. Romans were fighting, Persians were fighting. Two big superpowers. China had been in a huge civil war (a lot of violence) then there were Arabs who were quiet. They were fierce people but quieter because they were small.

Muhammed came from the Arab and he had to go through a lot. These guys who were against him hurt him in every way possible, verbally and physically.
