...for the kick in the ass i need to actually finish a story? i've got 3 or 4 started and saved on disc and at least another dozen or so bouncing around in the gray matter, but none of them have ever become a finished product. How do You all do it?

LOL...consider your ass kicked

Usually I finish stories at 3 in the morning when I have to be up early the next morning...lately it seems that inspiration strikes just as I'm about to go to bed and rather then get much needed sleep I have elected to write...which is good on one hand but I'm dying of sleep deprivation

Go for it entitled. Set a day off, set up a working area and just blitz it. Starting stories is easy, finishing takes the perspiration. Try mixing ideas from two different stories together. If you're really stuck PM me with an unfinished story and I'll see whether I can give you any suggestions. Hard work will be the key though.

As I have been told over and over, the best way to become a better writer or to finish a story is to write. Get it on paper. If you don't like how it turned out, figure out where you went wrong and rewrite from there.

It's 3am...guess it's time for me to start another story..after all, I have to get up in 3 hours. sigh.

While no where near as prolific as many, I finally started finishing stories when I sat until they were done.

It may be only a rough draft, but having a finished product to edit is far more motivating than having an unfinished story.

Good luck!

personally, i have hundreds of half-finished stories laying around. It seems that the only way I can finish them is wait until I've been awake for HOURS and I don't know what I'm doing anymore - words seem to flow then.

Another thing I've taken to doing is starting stories at www.chyoo.com with my beginnings, letting other author's take them over. That is proving to be less productive to my story list on lit, but very, very fun.

i've already got one up at chyoo :) It's titled Decorating the Tree and was approved a couple of days ago. i'm thinking that's what's going to happen to the other ones, too.

Unless i get out of the house more. i ran away for the day and ended up writing one from start to finish this afternoon. It popped into mind as soon as i got away from the house and is 6 pages longhand, all done in one sitting. Boy, is my wrist tired!
