Hey all
I started writing a story awhile back, anyway it goes like this.
Guy /girl 1300's fall in love, soul mate thing, the girl goes to wise woman who presents her with two amulets that are magical. The romance is secret, anyway they get it on, and then he leaves to go on a voyage. Both have their amulets on. The girl dies in childbirth the amulet passes on to daughter. The man comes back finds her dead, takes another woman, that child son receives amulet. Through the centuries the amulet is passed down one in scotland the other in USA. Finnally the daughter comes to US, and there is were the to amulets meet up again at a costume party. The story of the amulets have been passed down generation to generation. The modern guy/girl meet up and it's instant attraction. They get together, something happens and the girl runs. The guy tracks her down, amid storm/lightining ect...big scene full of power male dominance ect....Throughout the story line there are flashbacks through the centuries of the soul mates. that the couple dream.....IS this to much for a novel type idea. Their is plenty of sex throughout, I just wondered if the storyline is to complicated for most to follow. it's a little more in depth than this, but this is the main theme of the story. Any input would be appreciated

I think the readers who commit to novels will tolerate, or even expect, a lot of plot. A lot of hot sex will sell it too.

It sounds good for a novel to me. Readers of novels want an in depth story to go along with the hot sex.

GOOD LUCK! :)

I can see a novel series there, say one per century or so, alternate continents, gives eight or nine novels (say half a million words) each a biography of one individual, except the first and last.

The real problem is research. I could write the 1300's UK with no trouble. Where he might go 150 years pre-Columbus is a problem, but maybe a crusade.

Then you have to research six or seven separate historical periods - and believe me the feedback if you get some detail wrong can be fierce.

Sounds a big job for the author, but not too difficult for the readers.

As an aside There is a theory that if you go back in the family trees of couples who claim "love at first sight" on both sides, you will find a common ancestor, and hence a common couple who had that ancestor as their child.

Wow,I Love it

I would love to read this story it sounds like a good making for a movie as well as a book, The longer the better as long as you can keep your audience captivated, And it looks like you have an outstanding story line.
Please keep me posted when you have it finished I would love to see it.

Enjoy

Thank y'all

Hey thanks for the possitive feedback! This story is my love child and I have been working on it for several years here and there. The pre colonial, actually would be based on some info I found pertaining to the gwynnedon( I think I spelled it wrong it's been so long) and the a group that settled in what was before columbus. mixed with indians actually the history in that part was quite interesting, and as for the family relation the base family to the final mates were half brother and sister in the father's line. This is one of those that is just there waiting......so I guess back to work. Someone once told me it would be to complicated for people to follow. The whole thing actually was born of some weird/yummy vibes, some historical info, a bit of magic and a beautiful romance....

I do have a question though.....A story of this caliber, if it ends up being as good as I feel it. What kind of money could it make???? I really when I finish it would like to sell it. I want to see it on the best seller list right there with the #1's. i hope that is not to much to strive for.

If you write all 9 volumes and it catches the public attention you will earn more money than you can spend, just like J.K.Rowling.
If, on the other hand the public doesn't like it, you may be like van Gogh who sold exactly nothing in his lifetime.

I guess neither of those is likely, but the expectation is that it will be nearer van Gogh than Rowling.

Seriously, the trick is to get it published, and then to sell the film and paper-back rights. Then you can earn enough to live on comfortably. My first book sold 6,000 copies at $7 and I got 12½% so I made just over $5,000 before tax over two years. My advance was $500 on presentation of a complete synopsis and three "finished" chapters. Nobody wanted the filp or paper-back rights.

Wow, actually to me that would be a great start, thank you for the info. I was just coming back to try figuring out to remove the question, as I seemed to have made a social blunder and I did not want to be at all offensive to anyone.
