Is This Slogan True?

Hmmm. I would say no. Having slavery, genocide, and colonialism dropped at our feet would hardly be an honor. Privelage, I might see, but really I think that's true for middle class and upper class white people. Being a poor white person sucks as much as being a poor black person, although one is more likely to occur.

Priviledge is the wrong word.

A windfall, most assuredly. Like being born wealthy, American, etc.

Just keep in mind, when I drive by a black persons house and they got the pit out in front cooking ribs and they are sitting around a card table in the front yard and on the porch like one big happy family, I feel rather envious.

No, its just genes. See my mom is white, my dad is white...tadah! I'm white! :)

As much as I would like to say that this slogan is not true anymore today, the reality proofs me wrong. Not everywhere - of course, but in some areas or countries being of a different skin colour than the masses is still a hinderance in some aspects of life.
Even if you are white you will be disadvantaged in countries like China or certain African countries.
I think it depends as much on the area you live in, as the general attitude towards other races.
In the end, all that divides us is the fact that black people lived dominantely in Africa and therefore adapted their skin colour and general appearance to the geography of their region. Just like Asian or people from northern countries adapted to their environment.

Racism sucks donkey cock. :(

Most of the black people I know- and they range from convicts- to lawyers - to technicians to health professionals -and to the best of them all, strippers, tell me
there are distinct disadvantages. Not like they wish they were white, they just feel the cards are stacked against them in some ways (poor Americans, regardless of race) would probably say the same thing.

There is always inequality between social classes. Just as I would be seen as unworthy the super-rich class, some people (I'm not saying that I'm one of them) see poor people as scum. Some see fat people as scum. Some see short people as a joke.

Prejudicies still rule - unfortunately :(

Hmm perhaps it should read,

"To be born a wealthy and white is an honor and a privilege."

Ask Ted Kennedy.

It appears that he got away with murder. Being caucasian wasn't what saved his lily white ass. Being one of the privileged wealthy did.

Better yet:

"To be born a wealthy, white male is an honor and a privilege."

Re: raceism shit....

Being born is a priviledge, race is not by choice!

When you pass in the great beyond "all the colors just fade into one" U-2, said it all!! Everyone here is human, what are you?

Issues of race have always fascinated me.

Do I consider being white an honor and privilage? Hell no, that's crazy! I am just white...it's not like I had a choice!

Am I thankful I am white...somewhat, yes.

Would I want to be reincarnated as a black person. I don't think so...though I'm sure it would be an eye opener!

There have been a lot of race related threads of late - it must be springtime.

However, there are still two fundamental questions that I have NEVER seen addressed:

What do you consider "white"?

What do you consider "black"?

I'm not talking about the monikers that people assign to themselves or have assigned to them..

We all have in our minds what we think of when we think of a black person or a white person. And I think it's more consistent then people want to admit.

We here "He acts white" or "She acts black". We assign stereotypes based on color. We here people say, "Well, I don't really think of her as black" or "He's not really white".

Is it based just on skin color? Upbringing? Zip code?

Do you lump Eminem and Dave Matthews together? Mariah Carey and Whoopi Goldberg?

I'm serious - sometimes when I read comments they seem assigned to a color or hue and other times they seemed assigned to a demographic.

I think the answer lies; what ever the answer may be, it's a lie.

Race is division we place upon our selves. The sooner we realize how meaningless it is, the sooner we can get back to more important things, like sex. ;)

Hrm.

I guess sometimes I'm glad I was born white, male, upper-middle class, and in America.

Genetic lottery, I suppose.

It's an advantage as far as living in the states.

why dont we all screw then we will be the same color

My mom said something like this once.

"If we all just keep fucking each other enough everyone will be the same color."

Very unchacteristic of my Mom, no not using the word fuck, but premoting promiscuity.
