Is this how we want to welcome new members to the board?

We have new posters coming to the POETRY board and finding threads with "fucking" in the title and a red thumbs down. The threads begin with a poem and the poetry stops there.

Here is one comment by a new poster:
Mmmkay. I just like, hopped on the forums here (after ages of no success) and I think I caught the bad end of a violent heart transplant. Should I like, walk out, drop some Visine and come back in and hope mommy and daddy are done fighting?
You all decide if you want our board to sink to this level. Stop responding to posters and threads that not only serve no purpose but that are also a negative element to our poetry community.

Nice bumps, Eve! :D

And good points, too.

Thanks for showing them to us. I am so going to grow up now. ;)

I'd like to see some good threads bumped to the top. Feel free to bump, fly. :)

maybe you can move some of the " non poetry" threads to the playground or something
and a rule of thumb is never respond to anyone who types in pink font.

I think there all kinds of ways to offend or welcome new people (and old timers) to the board. There are all kinds of ways to respond to every thread that is posted.

Thank you for allowing us to make the choice and for not giving us a directive.

dude, love you man, but we would have to change the name of this area to the Poetry Playground instead because every single thread is eventually reduced to sexual innuendo and fucking around, which some people think is offensive.

I know I am part of that, but we need to be careful before judging what is inappropriate.

I know " brinnie" from the GB
trust me..she has no interest in poetry

Poetry was posted on the threads and there is freedom of speech. I can't move them. I would hate to see the board monopolized by threads like the pink ones.

That's obvious. So, why are some posters so fascinated by these threads and posting to them? Are we that bored? lol

Reduced? For many threads here that is an elevation!

Hey, once the poetry talk is worn out on some of these threads, it's our duty to talk sex on literotica. ;)
But basically, we do have a poetry board. We're more about poetry than sex talk and fucking around, aren't we?

Pink font from you is like a giggle and a wave
it's a whole different story from other people
it's like talking to someone who is chewing bubble gum and blowing bubbles while you are talking to them

the stake?

"she floats! and what else floats?"

wood

"and what does wood do?"

it burns!

"What else burns?"

a witch!

She's a witch! Burn her!!!

From my own actions (voting less than a 5 without some in depth explanation) or not going with the flow and voting lower than 15 other people have voted already.... I am a troll. Or at least I was before I stopped voting. So I guess I figure I might be the next one to be tied to the stake.

I do not think that public personal attacks should be allowed.

But so often what we call Troll is just a person, in what is not the "nice" way of saying things, shows us some kind of truth we do not want to see. I am not talking of any one person in particular. Sure people do things to be mean, or maybe they are just fucking with us to see the feathers get ruffled.

In society anywhere, there are people who act in ways that we do not like. To talk down to them and fight them with violence and judgement will not do a damn thing to change them. To throw anyone we do not like into some broad general term, those, to me, are the offensive behaviors.

This is why society has laws.

There are so many kinds of human behavior. While I do not understand or enjoy all of them, I do want to learn. I do not like stupid jokes so I do not visit places that post them. Nothing personal, just not too crazy about it. Not crazy about poetry gunfights or other duels, I do not visit them.

All I am saying is that if you do not like pink put it on ignore and move on, but lets be careful before getting too judgmental especially since, from what I understannd, the rules of the poetry board are vague if there are any at all.

There is a reader on the boards who thinks that all posts should be poems.
Should we make that a law?

I am not even talking about the post and the bumping here. Just the general feel of purging what we might not like after calling the offender a name that is dehumanizing, which makes it so much easier to exclude.

I am sure the person in question is very offensive. I do not claim to know everyone's intentions or mental state. :)

I just think that we have to be careful.

Which I think was what Eve was doing.

Still we have to be careful about being careful :)

oh and reading my reply, I guess how I responded might have been read as being evil back, but I was just trying to join in with some slam type poetry as well--- and stated that no one should take these things personally. There are many poetry venues that do this, and like comedy, people should not be offended, unless it is a direct personal attack that holds no truth.

I think I will start a slam thread. Is that okay? You can move the nasty in your face poems there if they come up, and people can avoid it like the plague.

well gosh, Tath, youre so sweet :)

anna, I think a slam thread is a good idea. I have some I might post there.

oh yeah, if this part is outta place, forgive me. maybe it goes on the new poems review, but I wanted to say check out this guy, his work is really understated and very good, he only has three poems, but one is on the toplist, among like 15 other 5 scored poems, I like him, wish he would post more.

It/ she is on ignore anna

i was simply suggesting to the people who might not know better that this person responds to people interacting with her.
she had virtually taken over the gb on quite a few days.
you may deal with her however you like, as can everyone else
I've given my opinion, as have you, and for me the subject is closed.

Damn look at this! I found the rules and there are plenty! Just in case you were wondering:

Forum Guidelines

1. You must be 18 years or older to read or participate at Literotica.
2. You may not post sexually explicit pictures or stories featuring anyone under 18 years old. Literotica does not allow the posting of underage or animal sex pictures on the forum.

3. Do not post /hotlink copyrighted images or articles in their entirety. Fair use laws allow some posting of copyrighted material, such as excerpts from articles and screen captures from movies, under certain circumstances. Please do a Google search under "Fair Use" if you want to understand this issue better.

4. You may not post personal information of other members or, for that matter, anyone else. We do not allow phone numbers, email addresses, private messages or quotes from private emails to be posted on the forum. This rule also covers real names, employment info, and any other personal information that we deem inappropriate.

5. Do not threaten other users.

6. Any posts made with the intent of promoting another site or a product will be removed. You may not send unsolicited PM's or emails to other users trying to promote other websites or products. Literotica is not a place to promote other websites, and we are very strict on this issue. If you abuse this policy, you will be banned.

7. Please do not blatantly "advertise" for other websites in your signature. We allow non-commercial links to other people's personal websites in sigs, but please do not beg people to click on your link, make it huge and/or flashing, or otherwise be obnoxious.

We do not allow links to any adult pay sites. We also reserve the right to remove signatures which link to sites with numerous annoying pop-ups, viruses, or anything else potentially harmful to people's computers. If you turn your signature into an advertisement, we will ask you to change it. Do not start threads with the URL in the header.

8. You cannot use a URL/site address as your membername. If you do so, we will ask you to change your name.

9. Please do not post audio that automatically plays itself on the forum. There are people who access Lit from various locations, and in some locations they prefer to be discreet. We reserve the right to edit or remove any post or signature which automatically plays audio.

10. Please post content in the appropriate forum. We do not believe in censorship, but your posts will be moved or removed if you do not read the forum title before hitting "SUBMIT". Personal ads should be posted in the "Personals" forum, story ideas in the "Story Ideas" forum, BDSM issues in the BDSM forum, random nonsense on the General Board, and so on.

11. We will not remove your posts. You have the ability to edit out any text and remove any attachments on your own. The administrators will not delete your posts just because you changed your mind about what you said. You can edit your own posts as you see fit. Please do not contact us about removing your posts.

* * *

If you believe that someone is violating these rules in a specific post, please click on the "REPORT THIS POST" link in that post and submit a report to the Moderators.

Anything else goes. You may post whatever you like. Consequently, so can everyone else. The administrators here don't believe they are anyone's parents nor are they anyone's Jiminy Cricket. It's not their responsibility to make sure that everyone on the site uses free speech responsibly. It's up to individual users to be responsible for themselves. For those who are not, the programmers at Jelsoft have added an ignore function for your convenience. Just go here and add the user you don't want to deal with anymore.

In short, we believe in the First Amendment, and offensive content will not be removed unless it breaks one of the rules.

Anna, those threads won't be removed. You can post to them all you want. I'm just asking is this what we really want. Do we want these kinds of threads monopolizing the board and giving new posters the impression that's what we're all about? That's why I bumped some of our other poetry threads. Post on the poetry threads or post to those other threads. You have the freedom to do as you please as long as it's within the rules of the forum.

Eve-- I think you did the right thing, it is what I would have done, and I thanked you for keeping it up to the individual.... I absolutely do not want these threads to overtake the forum either. I just think that it is a slippery slope is all.

I was surprised that personal attacks was not one of the rules, actually! Seems kind of fundamental, but so hard to judge.

I do not envy your job, that is for sure!

okay off to the Dr.

It's not just this particular poster. Many of us have posted on those threads. That's fine if that's what some of you want. I just want to remind you all that this is the poetry forum. I know we don't talk poetry all of the time, but we should try to keep most of our threads geared toward poetry. If we don't, then what's the point of having a Poetry board?
