Ok, imagine following situation:

(this just happened to five or eight (couldn't remember) people in Germany)

You are sick. I mean very sick. You have some problems with an organ of yours. Your doc tells you, you'll need a transplant.

So you fear for your life but there's always this little hope that you'll get a fast possible transplant from some donator.
And the day comes. You are told you'll get your transplant and everything will be fine. Your life is saved.
Then you'll pray that the operation will go smoothly.

Then you wake up after the op. And now - because of some terrible mistakes from the clinic-personal or whatever reasons - you are infected with rabies.

Which is lethal. So right now over here there are a couple of people dying instead of living happily with their new organs.

Kinda fucked up, isn't it?

Where'd they get the organs? From monkeys??

Isn't rabies treatable?

Nice AV btw.

Thnx.

Well, you can be vaccinated against rabies. And if recognized early it's treatable. But in these cases most of the patients battle for their lives. All other people who were in contact

with them were vaccinated now.

I don't know where the organs came from, I don't even know if it was the organs or maybe blood donation or something. I believe it had something to do with some person having stayed in a foreign country recently.

No matter how, it's just news that kinda shocked me today.

Now that sucks!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not sure how germany works but here they're suppose to screen all blood and organs. Also review the persons travel history and any other medical history. I'm not sure if rabies is one we test for though. I've assisted with a few organ donations and the patients recovered great. Eyes and kidney transplants mainly. But I can see where a rushed system to get organs could cause something like this to happen. It just sucks that they didn't test first!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How the hell did that happen???

I only have a german article on it. It happened in Neu-Isenburg which is in Hessen. The organ-donator was infected with rabies. She donated her organs to six different people.

Two of them were positive on test for rabies. Three were negative. One of them is yet to be tested. The donator had been on an India-journey recently where she caught the lethal virus.

The officials said that they were very shocked by the events but they were not to be blamed for it because the virus is very hard to discover before it breaks out. So there is always a risk of an infection with rabies.

The 26-year-old, female donator had deceased and donated lung, kidneys, pancreas, liver and the conreas of her eyes. She showed no symptoms and died of heart attack in follow of Ecstasy, cokain and speed abuse but she was said to be no risk and clear for donation. (what the fuck?)

That's what I could dig up about it.

rabies is treatable, 21 shots in the stomach is what I have heard. Maybe it depends on how soon the doctors catch it. I wonder how many people got aids from blood transfusions before they fixed that problem.

Thank god she deceased first.

The shots only work if given very early - with days of infection. Once the virus migrates, very little can be done.

One person is known to have survived rabies that had reached systemic infection. This was very recently in the US. Basically the doctors induced a very deep coma and shut her down as far as they could to try to stop the spread through the brain. She did survive.

Just a sad update.

The first victim died today. The other don't look to good either.
