Is this bullshit or up and up?

Gang,

I've been around the block a few times. I've been using computers since my first Ohio Scientific Challenger 1P so I can usually spot spam from miles away.

But I received the following email via Literotica's feedback system. It's not a mass mailing like those damn Nigerian cons and British lottery winnings.

Here's the message:

Hello rwsteward

I am a wannabe adult webmaster and your story 'deleted' got me all hot and bothered.

I'm putting together a collection of a number of amateur erotica stories to publish for my readers and would like to include your story (and maybe some others if you have more).

I am able to pay a lump sum of around $8 for every story I use and there is the potential for plenty of ongoing need for stories like yours.

Please let me know ASAP if you're interested.

I figure someone is fishing for email addresses.

But then why offer me a goofy price of $8 per story? Why even offer it? Hell whoever this is could have easily copied the story and just posted it anyway. I'd never know.

So, anyone else planning to buy that 2012 Lexus with those eight buck story submissions?

Or should I just push 'delete?'

Well that pretty much says so. thanks for the link to the other thread.

I'd say, they're after email addresses. It's one thing to just send out billions of emails, but to have have some that you know have living people on the other end, those are worth money.

Ah, poop, sure could have used that $8. Almost two gallons of gas.

Thanks for all

It could be more than just your email they are after. Eight dollars is pretty cheap to get full details of someone's bank account "to send you the money".

That's about what I thought. I figured the next step was asking for account information. I guess this must be the current hoax/scam going on.

Oh, that's true!

But I was thinking that more than likely with most any internet transactions they'd use paypal and you don't need to know 'account' information to send money that way. All you need is a email address.

But that's good thinking. 'Cause, we don't use paypal.... need your bank routing number, etc, etc...

Ah poop. So close to my fortune---yet so far away.

Wait...so I really didn't win the British lottery?

More seriously - I'm developing my own site and network and had been seriously considering approaching people here and elsewhere with an invitation to host some of their stories or at the very least spotlight them with a link to some page or site they may have up.

Is that okay to do here, or is that frowned upon? I am not looking to start a Literotica thing of my own, but I've read several things here and would love, love to help promote them on my own site, let them add their stuff, etc.

It looks like you'll need to offer at least $9 per story. The $8 offer hasn't fared too well. :D

Foolishly, I actually responded to her e-mail and got a response. This is what it said:

Thanks for getting back to me! I'm afraid I don't have a site built yet for you to see as I'm currently lacking the content to get started. I'm looking to get the stories in as quickly as possible so that I can start putting them together.

Here is some information to give you an idea about what I need from you and also how I intend to use your stories.

I will be paying a one-off lump sum for each story I use, preferrably via paypal. I will only require the non-exclusive right to publish the work, which means you can leave it up on literotica or other sites and you can still sell it on/self-publish in the future without restriction should you decide to. I won't need to edit your writing without your permission. I won't publish your stories on any sites that contain porn, hate or anything illegal.

I will only use stories that are legal, this includes a requirement that it is overtly declared that the characters are at least 18.

I will send a contract for you to sign, confirming you understand and agree with all of the above and also, for each story I will need a couple of lines of text summarising/describing the story and for you to pick out an enticing short excerpt from each that preview some of the suspense, mystery or surprise ending of the story without giving away too much. This will be used to introduce your story and encourage people to read it.

Let me know when you're happy to proceed. I'll need details of the paypal account to send the money to (let me know if you don't have access to paypal and we'll work something else out) and your full name and address for the contract and then I think that's all we need.

Oh, and obviously there will need to be something in the agreement that says that confirm that you own the stories and have the right to let me publish them.

I'm excited, hopefully we can get this started over the next day or two!

Yours,

Caroline

That dosen't sound as bad as I figured it would.

This one throws me though:

I won't publish your stories on any sites that contain porn, hate or anything illegal.

So I guess she dosen't want to post dirty stories on a porn site but is actively designing her own porn site.

Would be I interesting if anyone else got the same boiler plate response.

The plot thickens.

just ask your self,
can some story-paysite actually earn enough money to cover 8$ for buying every story?
If he said he'd pay you 10 cent per story and then share revenue based on page views: 0.001 cent per 1000 views.

even the best porn-stars and cam girls don't have trouble getting subscriptions.

This is scam, people you know even if he's not asking your bank account!

What if he asks you to submit your signature, some identity papers etc and then gets a loan or makes business-deal to third party, in your name?

really please don't fall for this.

I agree with you Leon. But I think people get hopeful they can make a little money off of their hobby.

But you are absolutely right, this has scam written all over it.
