Is this a record?

I posted Chapter 1 of my new story, ‘A Day To Forget’, last week and this morning, having garnered the requisite number of votes, it stood proudly at number 1 in the Humour and Satire category.

Lo and behold, within a couple of hours someone has awarded it a ‘1’ and it has dropped like a stone from 4.80 to 4.45.

Is this a record?

Is it only worth a '1'? There's only one way to find out.

If you believe that there is fraudulent voting happening on your stories, the best way to handle it - rather than make a public post - is to PM me discreetly with the story name. I will check into it and if I see any fraudulent voting happening, I will remove it.

Do understand: a single 1 vote is not always fraud. Fraud is, by our definition, when a person or persons attempts to make multiple votes - 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, or 5s - on a work. If someone gives you a 1 because they don't like authors with O's in their name, that may be a dumb reason to vote, but it is not fraud. It's also possible that someone saw it was the #1 story, had very high expectations, read it, and was disappointed for whatever reason. This does happen to stories that hit #1 on any list, here or elsewhere.

Hope this helps. :)

No, Laurel I don't think this is evidence of fraudulent voting. It is only one vote after all and as you have previously said people can vote '1' for any reason whatsoever.

Perhaps I got a '1' because the voter could not get off to my story. But it was in 'Humour and Satire'

I've given up trying to change the system. I only posted this to see if my story had set a record for the shortest duration at the top of its genre.

That really stinks Octavian. I am sorry to hear it. I hope this does not dissuade you from writing the remaining 1,768 chapters.

I also currently have a story in the top 5 of its respective category and after all the voting horror stories I read in these posts, I am just waiting for it to get bombed to oblivion.

How about THIS for a record?

Out of all the 23 threads in this forum right now, I'm the last poster on ALL of them!!!;)

I have WAY too much time on my hands...

The real question is: how many of your posts REMAIN the last post on the thread?

To date, Laurel has the record of "Thread Killer".

I have a black vinyl disc with a hole in the middle.
This has to be a record, surely!

A record is something the police keep of one's activities.

What you have, sounds like a recording.

What I would love to have available to me is a breakdown of the number of votes by rating. Something simple like the number of 5's, 4's, 3's, 2's, and 1's for each post. This way I can evaluate my own score for myself.

With the variety of stories that are in the same category, the rankings are, in many cases, comparing apples with oranges. If I can see that 90 percent of the votes on a post are 5's and 4's with the remaining percentage being 1's, I can make my own conclusions about the story.

Any voting system that allows anonymous voting is going to be skewed one way or another. I would just like to see a breakdown of my votes and let me make my own conclusions. Literotica can still do its monthly contests, etc. with the system it has now. Just give me something to make my own evaluation of the votes I did receive.

Oh yea, I still want that Ferrari for Xmas too. ;)

What do you mean, Quasi???

Svenskaflicka,

Go back and sort through all the old, dormant threads. The last post on each, could be said to have "killed" the thread.

Laurel got her "Thread Killer" title by answering a couple thousand threads that started:

"I want someone to write a story about this man who is mistaken for the new director of an orphanage, and slowly works his way through ..."

Do you get the picture?

Can you can guess Laurel's response? :D

Now you know what a thread killer does, and how Laurel got her title.

Aha...

Well, I've filled my quota of "You-learn-something-new-everyday". Now I can just lay back the rest of the Sunday.

May I quote myself? Thank you.

No sooner said than done. With one vote, my story goes from 4.75 to 4.54.:(

While I try to avoid the 'reform voting' banter, what I would love is if on our control panels, we could not only see the # of votes we get but who voted and what they gave us. I wonder if the vote bombers would have the balls to do so if they knew we could see who they were.

One more thing. Is it just me or does it seem it is always the same few authors at the top of the heap? How do they avoid the bombing?

Ah, yes.

But that leads to the slippery slope.

First we want to see their names, then their faces ... eventually, it will not stop until we have control of their I.V. drip.:

As a RN, I would know exactly how to handle that drip!!!!!!:p

I noticed today, for example, that the highest rated chapters of each of my two stories got a single vote, knocking them from 26th and 27th place in the incest category. Two chapters out of a total of 10 chapters posted (total of two stories). None of the other chapters got a vote. Just the two highest rated knocking them down the rankings.

I know, I know ... it's just a score ... but it still sucks.

Oh well ... I still want a Ferrari for xmas. :(

Initially, I was confused by the "...skewed one way or another..." even while I agreed. Then it occurred to me that I was automatically thinking 'skewed against or skewed for'.

Of course, the third option would be 'no skew'.

I completely agree that it would be better to see the breakdown. I had "Jasper's Tale" buzzing along getting happy results, then drop like a rock. Unhappily, it was at a point that Weird Harold's math wouldn't help anymore...
