Is there anything worthwhile on the deep web?

What's the Deep Web? I feel so clueless here sometimes (most of the time).

First time I have heard the term too, and I have been in computers since the 70's and on the web since it's beginning and internet before that.

This reminds of the Wayback Machine. It's a historical thumb print of everything on the net. This non-profit org has been archiving cached pages of web sites onto their servers since '96.

Go To:
http://archive.org/web/

Try any site, like Literotica.com and you're able to view snapshots of this board from given days going back for the last 16 years.

Computers was out in the 70s?? I had no clue, I'm a 90s baby :p.

Thanks for explaining it to me. I understand.

Lots of things are not searchable, stuff like areas that are password protected, non html, badly set up websites that wanted to be searchable but use tables or bad code and can't be searched, storage areas, lots of stuff.

The dark web is where people intentionally do not wish to be found. They are not all criminals, there are other reasons.

But you can't see all the personal messages...

Know any dark web websites?

What's Tor?

"The Tor software protects you by bouncing your communications around a distributed network of relays run by volunteers all around the world: it prevents somebody watching your Internet connection from learning what sites you visit, it prevents the sites you visit from learning your physical location, and it lets you access sites which are blocked."

How do you use that?

Maybe she means the Silk Road. I've heard that described as part of the so-called Dark Web. It's part of a black market system developed within a decentralized web designed to be devoid of traffic data. Purportedly, neither users nor traffic is traceable within the TOR system.

It's a fascinating story, though didn't end well for its alleged founder who was sentenced today to life in prison.

The medium is not the message and vice versa.

I heard about that and that's what got me curious. I mean, there has to be other stuff on there, right? Stuff that won't send you to prison?

It's a person's illegal activity that send them to prison not wanting privacy in their web browsing and communications.

I know, but is the deep web all just drugs and kiddie porn? That's what I'm asking.
