Seriously now, my roomie is getting annoyed wiht my alarm clock in the morning. I told her before we moved in together that I'm a very deep sleeper and it usually takes me awhile to hear the clock. I've tried putting it on the other side of the room, but it doesnt work (I go hit snooze and then go back to sleep). Anything that may help?

Make sure the clock is more than arms length.. this way hitting the snooze is a task that nearly pulls you out of bed.

It seems to work for me.. most days.

Drink lots of fluids before going to bed. Assuming you're not a wetter, that is.

Hahahaha That's an excellent suggestion!

I've got both of those covered already... and it still takes me awhile to hear the clock (like a half hour)

and for the record, I am not a wetter

my hi fi is my alarm i put the remote on the table so i have to get out of bed to turn off the hi fi then i just go straight into the bathroom and shower

im usually out of the house and on my way to work in 30mins :)

Give yourself a pinch of cocaine every morning.

Drinking water is the classic alarm clock for shepherds in pre-modern societies.

here's the thing, I can put the clock on the ohter side of the room, no problem. But when it goes off in the morning, I will get up (I'll still be sleeping mind you), hit snooze, and then wander back to bed and continue sleeping. It doesnt matter how much I drink the night before I still react the same way in the morning

i had a roomate once that would hit snooze like 10 times every damn morning. annoyed the crap outta me.

I once set five alarm clocks five minutes apart and spread them throughout the house so I had to walk some distance to turn any on of them off.

I shut them all off without ever waking up enough to really hear them.

I garountee this will work:

Attach a hose to one of your automatic lawn sprinklers and mount a nozzle over your bed.

Set the sprinkler control to begin watering when you need to wake up for one to five minutes.

you WILL wake up -- especially in the middle of winter when the sprinkler system is half frozen.

On a more serious note, I found that "self-hypnotism" -- repeating how long you can sleep and the time you need to get up over and over until you fall alseep -- works to the extent that I wake up about ten seconds before the alarm goes off (on a good day) or at least only hit the snooze button once.

"Wide awake in six hours, wide awake in six hours," etc, ad nauseum -- until you bore yourself to sleep. It doesn't have to be audible to your roommate either; you can just think it intently.

The trick is to focus on only that thought as you fall asleep.

I'm afraid I can't offer any advice. I can, however, gloat because I wake up nearly instantly most times with the alarm on the lowest setting. :)

There's a suggestion. Get a bedmate who's a light sleeper to nuzzle and lick you awake each morning. It's much better than ice cold water. :D

I'll try that whole self-hypnotism thing. It just may work.

As for the sprinklers though, that wont work.. I dont think the residence hall would be all that thrilled by me watering the room every morning, let alone the hose hanging out a window on the 8th floor.

I read of someone who put one of those old-fashioned wind-up alarm clocks in a metal pan across the room. When it went off in the morning, it would move and clang against the side of the metal, creating a huge rucus which caused the person to get up.

Also, make sure you routinely go to bed at the same time every night. Once your body gets used to the same sleep pattern, it will be easier to get up at the same time.

If I was your roomie I could help

I keep a speculum in the freezer. Stainless steel one. Great for giving you a jumpstart in the morning
