SUVs

Hope nobody minds my rehijacking the thread.

Licky, I had a good experience with a Toyota 4Runner. Now I have a Ford Explorer. I like it because it drives more like a car than a truck and it handles better that the 4Runner. The Explorer also saved my life in an accident when I got slammed by a US Mail truck. I'd recommend it highly.

Licky,

Got your PM and I think you covered everything just fine.

I'll talk to my boyfriend, and see what I can find out from him (I know he is going to lean towards the Toyota or the Nissan, I looked into buying one of those but decided on the Maxima because of the need to get my mom into whatever I bought)

I'll PM or email you (do I have your email addy? or is it available through here?) tomorrow.

Maybe I'll surprise you with a phone call tomorrow instead of an email ;)

Zam, are you serious? You want my phone number? LOL

Yogi.. gosh, I haven't seen you in a while.. definitely don't mind you hijacking anything. :) Thanks for the recommendation.. I'm not actually fond of the Explorer, but if it gets more rave reviews, I'll consider it as well.

Freaky, my email here works fine.. I'll PM you with my normal addy though, I check it more frequently. If you do call and get my voicemail... leave a message with your number (even though I think you've given it to me before  i'm such a loser), I'll call you back.. I've got free LD.

omgosh  lol.. hold on you guys, i gotta find a pic to post.

sorry Zam, no beav shots. *shudder*

My wife drives a Ford Expedition and doesn't like it because it's too big. But it's great for hauling 8 people or lots of cargo.

So, I've been test driving a bunch of them lately.

I've driven Blazers, Explorers, Grand Cherokees, Jeep Liberty, RAV4s, CRVs, Mazda Tributes, Ford Escapes, and 4Runners.

The Tributes and Escapes are nice, but haven't been out a couple of years, so there may not be many used ones to choose from.

The 4Runner is based on the Toyota truck, so it definitely has a truck ride, which is much stiffer than the others. I have several friends with 4Runners and they love them.

If I was going to buy a used SUV for on-road driving, I'd definitely get a Honda CRV. It's not the type of SUV you want to go off-road much with, but it's got the all-wheel drive, handles well, excellent repair record, and it's has been sold for enough years that there's a good section/price.

Beware of used SUVs. Many have been used to pull boats and travel trailers, which puts alot of wear on the engine and transmission. I'd recommend taking any used vehicle to a dealer and having it checked out. Most will do this for a reasonable cost and it can save you $1,000's.

I'll probably buy a Ford Explorer because the new ones have a 3rd row seat which is handy for hauling a group of kids around.

Good luck with your SUV search.

And get a damned camera! These digi-crayon avatars suck!

Digi-crayon avatars?! I don't know if I should be offended with that comment. :p

What would I have to do to get you to buy me one? ;)

This is an excellent idea that I wouldn't have thought of. Thanks :D
