Is there a word for this?

I seem to have a running problem going with the moderator at Boing Boing. He is virulently anti-police. Which is fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

But he takes it way beyond the extreme. Every cop that ever was is a criminal, in his opinion.

Now, if he felt this way about women, he would be called sexist.

If he felt this way about blacks, he would be called racist.

Is there a term for someone who blindly hates members of an occupational group?

The whole thing is rather amusing. He says that police are always abusing their authority. Then he uses his authority as moderator to block and remove my posts. The irony meter pegs!

It would be nice to know if there is a term for this.

BIGOT is the word.

Long ago such folks used Scripture to settle arguments and quarrels, and once you tossed out the Scripture card the debate was over. Now the word refers to anyone who refuses to accept additional info regarding their beliefs.

I spent many years associating with cops, and while I know that plenty of cops are angels from on high, its safe to assume that cops are blundering idgits.

I was a Deputy Sheriff, my father a Chief of Police. So I have known cops all my life.

While many are very good men and worthy of my respect, I never met one I thought was an angel from on high. Possibly you travel in better circles than I do.

Cops, like people in every other profession, span the range of possibilities, from the high to the low.

Trick is to get rid of the low as fast as possible. 8)

Just read the news about the cop who killed the student hostage up in NY. Back in the 80s cops seemed to have plenty of good sense, just before I retired in 2005 I was out with a deputy taking a child support scofflaw into custody when the guys sister jumped on the back of deputy. Jesus H. Christ! The SO went apeshit trying to crucify the deputy, but I was a witness, and pissed off some sergeants and IA weenies when I disputed the sisters baloney.

Back in 2000 the SO asked me to apply for a civilian slot doing investigations, and I turned it down because I knew that the screening process is larded with bullshit that rarely tags the misfits but is a colossal pain in the ass. The SO insisted that I detail every job I ever had going back 35 years to when I was 16. Fuck that.

We need cops.

Many may be corrupt but what is the alternative? It is worse. This fact only varies by degree around the globe. Consider South Africa where the police openly gun masses of people down. It is because the cops are better than the alternative scenes like that are even tolerated there.

Yes. It's called "being a dickhead."

Good luck. I don't even know what Boing Boing is.

Officers are made up of people and people make mistakes. Sometimes silly nuance mistakes, and sometimes big glaring mistakes. People are also capable of very noble self-sacrifices.

Personally, when I was a young man, I was nearly run off the road by an young off-duty Sheriff and his brother, while I was on a bicycle (there was a two tiered back story which led up to that, it all started over a girl in a bar).
That encounter has made me slightly apprehensive about officers, whereas before, I would have written off anything an officer said or did, without question.

As far as the topic question; I think "bigot" satisfies, or you can look up any online thesaurus for synonyms: intolerant, chauvinist, diehard, doctrinaire, dogmatist, enthusiast, extremist, fanatic, fiend, maniac, monomaniac, opinionated person, partisan

I don't know who or what "boing boing" is, but I am not a lemming nor sycophant and will judge for myself, thank you.

Maybe the word you are looking for is idiot. There are plenty of them around in all jobs and locations.
