Is there a problem with stories publishing today?

It seems that nothing has been published, including stories that were scheduled for today.

I have a story submitted last night with a scheduled publish date of the 17th. But since I'm in Oz, that would be the 18th, so I have no idea of the queue timing, really. But it got processed within twelve hours, so there's that.

I’ve had PMs from people with stories scheduled for today that haven’t been published yet. Up until a few minutes ago, none had been published. Now some have, but clearly not all. And this in the middle of a competition!

This happened about two months ago as well. My story posted around 9AM east coast US time that day.

But there is a competition on!
Lit should put up a big sign in the Author's Dashboard saying "Abandon all hope that things will be fair or will happen as they should."

Just because things should be done in a particular way doesn't mean that actually will. It sucks, it's unfair, but it's Lit.

Anyone in the Halloween comp who was published today missed out on five and an half hours of exposure. That’s a massive drag on a story’s performance.

But you are right - it’s not a level playing field at the best of times, it’s just even more tilted than normal in this case.

And it's not clear which way that changes things. I had a troll for about a month who rewarded each new story of mine with a 1 at 7:45AM give or take a few minutes. He (and that is just an assumption by me) missed that story because of the late releases. Assuming the story still gets the requisite 25 votes, who knows how it impacts it.

I pulled out a report from Lit's New lists of the past 7 days. Seeing that new stories are coming in, it's only 99% correct but...

1383 stories have been posted the past 7 days spread over 997 authors. 227 authors have gotten two stories or more posted with DaleJaneHenparty winning at 13 stories. On average, there are 170 stories posted every day.

It seems like most stories are now published. But there may be some stragglers. The new lists seem to have been updated, but not the Halloween Comp page as yet.

The fewer views, the fewer votes, and thus the greater leverage for tactical voting.

Add to that the Halloween stories potentially still in submission limbo and 🤷‍♀️

If anyone has a problem with a story that was meant to publish today and hasn’t, please PM @Laurel and @Manu with the name of the story. You can also take @ChloeTzang’s advice and register a bug report using ‘My Feedback.’

I'd really hate to see some of you during an actual crisis.
Yes, the stories posted later than usual.
So what?
There's a contest going on? So what? A few hours more or less will make no difference. If 5 more hours of "exposure" mattered, the stories being posted today would have no chance anyway since there are other stories that have been posted for days now and gotten all that additional "exposure".

This place is turning into the ultimate example of "First World Problems".
