I don't find romance interesting at all unless it's real. If he loves her, let him show it by not walking over his own dirty clothes, clean the tube, help with the diner dishes, and don't bring her attention to any of the things that he has done.

Flowers and candy is not my idea of a way a man can show that he loves and respects her. Think about her, not just how to get her in the sack.

Yeah! I voted for both, mainly cause I like a combination. Sweet and fluffy bunnies-in-the-meadow sappy crap really does nothing for me except induce the urge to retch. However, I've read some explicit stuff that's in such a hurry to explode gallons of cum all over someone that it ends up rushed and unsexy. I think the best erotica is well-written, with just enough character development to put a vivid picture in the reader's head.

Stories that deal with people's emotions are not, by default, romance stories. And there's a difference between a story that's "hardcore" and a stroke story.

I can write a story that I would consider to have hardcore sex scenes in them, including the graphic detail and dirty talk that you mentioned and still deal with people's emotions. You can have a story about a husband cheating on his wife with his secretary, write a scene where he bends her over his desk and takes her hard and fast, and then later deals with the guilt of cheating on his wife. Or if he can't stand his wife you can write about how much contempt he feels for her and make that as his basis for cheating on her.

For me it boils down to characters. If you write a story that's filled with stereotypes for every character you have (the semi-submissive secretary willing to please her boss, the jock football player who is the best looking guy in school and has a twelve inch dick, etc.) and you don't give at least a decent story about what they're doing and why, even if it's a stroke story, then I don't think it's going to be very interesting.

But that's how I look at my stories. If you can't give me good detail, including a storyline and characters, then I'm just not going to care for it.

This is an interesting poll/thread, thankyou Retrieval for bringing it to us. I'm not sure if it's been done before, but the information is intriguing

I'm following the usual stereotype, I suppose, by going for I'm a man and I like hardcore graphic stories, but with that, I can't read a story that's JUST about the fucking without some attempt at a legitimate, somewhat believable reason for the sex act, even if sometimes the suspension of belief is a requirement to read the events in the tale anyway.

A reason and proper narrative/grammer is pretty important in the stroke-stories I read here on Lit as well, and sometimes, that's unfortunately lacking.

Also to add to the reason why I just stick to the one type of story reading/writing, I'm a youngish guy, so I guess Love is something I'm yet to seek out relentlessly. I think I've found it once or twice already but I don't really know... the 'romance' on this site doesn't capture my attention or compell me to read more anyway.

To tell the truth, I like neither. Well, both. I prefer to see the fucking have some feeling behind it. Something that is all feeling leaves me bored and feeling slightly antagonistic towards the story, something that is all hardcore leaves me feeling shallow and repulsed.

Um. I've met a couple guys who like that syrupy love stick stuff too. And one reads Barbara Cartland romances. My goodness. I like the hardcore stuff too. More graphics, enables you to see more...clearly.
