I have recently asked one of the authors in here if she would consider writing a story for me based on a certain celebrity. I asked for this story to be hard core and graphic. Her response was that she doesn't usually write those kind of stories and instead prefers to write about the feelings of the people involved, which to me seems to be about romance.
So I'm wondering if most men are like me in the sense that they like the hard core, graphic, dirty talk kind of stories and if the women go for the feelings, emotion, romantic kind of stories.

So I have set up this poll to find out if there is or isn't a difference between the kind of stories men and women like to read.

Please answer this poll honestly as I believe the Authors here would also be interested in the results. (I have made this a private poll in case anybody out there is embarrassed about revealing the kind of stories they like to read)

Thank you.

Retrieval.

Hi. Okay, first off, I am a woman. I voted on the "hard core" story selection. As an author, detail is my friend. I have an eye for detail and I work it into my writings.

To me, how a character feels is not romance. (Then again, I am not a fan of Harlequin novels. What I know of romance novels (and I'm not talking about the romance category at Lit) I don't like.)

I'm a cunt and cock kinda gal. ;) I'll use the word "penis", hate the "V" word. And pussy works at times. But that's a kitty. And Dick is a man named Richard. lol When I think "romance" I think of stupid shit like "love stick" or "manhood/womanhood" to describe the naughty bits.

So, it seems we kind of have different ideas of what "romance" is... I don't see detail as being a romance tale. :) But, certainly, I'll take hardcore any day!

This is another point I was thinking about. Do men and women have different definitions of what romance is.

It seems we do. ;) Not sure if there's a total gender divide though! And, frankly, I do feel I am more "hardcore" (or "freaky", or whatever) than what I hear about most women.

You sound like my kind of woman Hallowed Eve.. :rose: :D

Men are mostly into hardcore, while gals keep the kittens in the sack, so to speak. Personally I think they are just as horny and craving as most men. In an adult room the other day I usualy visit, girls won't view cock, but when I had my girl with me on cam, it was a diffrent story. all ooowed and aaawed and wanted her to suck me etc... hardcore is best!

I think you assumption is off center in two places. I've written both "stroke" stories and the other.

First, the writers tend to write in the same catagories over and over. I'm probably one of the few who have a fair bunch of stories scattered over about 9 catagories. The catagory you named to this writer may well one she is simply not interested in writing.

Second, part of character development is showing the reader who the character is, how she/he thinks, reacts, and so on. Much of that is emotional discription. "Stroker" stories, for the most part, don't have that. The ones that do, don't do well in the voting ( I know. I've done it).

What you should have understood from that writer is that without the kind of character development that she's used too, the story isn't either satisfying for the writer or easy for her to write. We all suffer from our "style niche" in this way.

Though I have more poems than stories right now, my categories are spread. Reviews (of other Lit authors!) is the only repeat category.

I'm a woman who voted for both, I basically don't read a story unless it has both romance (defined as at least one character's emotions of longing and love being described) and explicit sex. I do like steamy romance novels, my only objection to standard Herlequin stuff is that it is mostly written for dumb women by dumb women, trying to read it frustrates my intellect. I prefer science fiction and fantasy romance novels because the characters and narration tend to be branier and the worldbuilding much more imaginative and interesting. Sff romance novels are hard to find though, so mostly I read/watch manga/anime romances.

I read one Harlequin novel once when I was seventeen. Once. I couldn't take it. At the time I was very curious about men, and they weren't mentioning what I wanted to hear... so, I've always been for the hardcore and graphic. Romance is romance. But it's not what I fantasize about!

I voted 'both'. But really, the only romance needed in the story is the reason they're having sex in the first place. Whether it's two sweethearts in love exploring each other for the first time or a horny ex-con taking his liberties out on what ever shows up first doesn't matter. Just give a bit of story line that leads up to and provides a reason for the sex.
Then, give me all the juicy details!

My sentiments exactly.

I vote both. I think it has to be something that evokes a strong physical and emotional response in me. There are romance writers that can do it, there's hardcore stuff that can do it.

Combing through romance to get to it, though, is more satisfying, because I'm less offended and turned off on the whole. I like wordplay. I don't like crude. Finding it in words is easier. But my two main categories I'll browse will be Romance and Reluctance.

Hardcore can go where I really don't want to. Romance maybe won't go all the way, but it's still not going to turn me off cold.

Well, so far 25 votes have been cast. 16 by men with 8 saying they like the hardcore stories and 8 saying they like both hardcore and romantic stories.
9 women have voted. 5 say they like the hardcore type and 4 say they like both.

Anybody else want to cast a vote?

Sluts of a feather. . . . :D

I voted hardcore--much prefer down and dirty. Accidentally read a Harlequin novel once. Couldn't understand why there was no sex in it at all. Turns out it was one of the Virginal Brides Series. I'm sorry but that should have been in big neon orange letters on the cover so as not to raise false hopes.

Interesting that NOBODY likes romantic stories only...but then again, this is a site for fans of erotic fiction, so you've got a pretty narrow sample! :D

Yeah, I like hardcore stories. I love sex. So sue me. ;)

Ya know, feathers can be used for so much more than only tickling! :D

This post expresses my thoughts and preferences quite well. I use my imagination to can fill in the blanks, I prefer to do that actually. My sensibilities aren't so delicate but reading lets me take a vacation from the world, and there's enough hardness out there. A romance story or novel (I love a good novel about life, not necessarily romance) is a ticket out of town.

I've noticed the romance publishers are all coming out with steamier books, I like that too. With Lit there's something for everyone, how nice.

Hey! There are still people that like the sweet syrupy goodness of romance, that spoonful of sugary.... ugh. Well, my sister likes it, no she loves it. She's got a ton of romance novels! I believe that hardcore can be so hard you can't feel it, those are the ones I have read and couldn't finish cos It was like sex with a polar bear, Idunno.... but the ones with the lust and the sex... oooh yeah, the sex too, that's what I like.

stories:

I personally like both. However, I LOVE a lot of detail. Be it hardcore, or romantic, it needs to be graphic.
