Doesn't it seem odd to you that, ok, we were attacked, we're pretty sure on who did it, or we're just going to assume that it's him. So what do we do? We start threatening another countries Sham gov't.. So wait... They are the bad guy for not extraditing him ASAP?

Yes, I am a full blooded American. I know the propaganda machine is running in overdrive right now, but you have to wonder, we go and we fight a war against this army that has a whole 35 planes at their disposal, lay waste to a country that, in all honesty, is already a waste, and then the US assumes OBL dead, will people really go for that?

Well I'm just saying, it's sort of like we can't have what we want, so we're going to have a side dish instead.

I noticed on Apple's website for upgrading that in their software a greement you can no longer distribute the OS upgrades to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. That's gonna win the war- the power of the upgraded G4 :)

Yes. To point #1.

Point #2: Not only 35 little planes, but they also have a bazillion dollars and some very highly trained terrorists at their disposal.

Point#3: I would rather have his head on a platter and would certainly hope that no assumptins have to be made.

Now, to debate the issue, if I give someone a gun, knowing that they are going to use it to commit murder, am I not an accessory to murder? Am I not as responsible for the act as the person pulling the trigger? If I aide and abet the murderer by providing safe haven for him or by assisting him in any other way, isn't there some responsibility held by me?

Yes. The propaganda machine is working over time, but if you are ready to assume that OBL is the guilty party, the rest of what we speak of isn't necessarily based on propaganda.

Middle of the night and thoughts running in circles....hope this makes some sense.

Politics and Public Opinion

Time will bring with it more rational and pacifist talk. But at the moment, the grieving is being translated in anger and revenge and politicians feel they must represent public opinion.

Strong leadership, whether intelligent or not, is always rewarded in conflict. That's where the language of "war, freedom, justice and revenge" come in.

However angry and horrified people are at the moment, I'd like to believe that we will not sit by and watch atrocities comitted in the name of justice. When and if the US oversteps that line, there will be a huge swing against it. But at the moment, despite all the rash war talk, the US is acting justly and wisely.

It better not be a sham -

Just because they're spewing cheap propaganda doesn't mean they're stupid. I've opposed numerous US interventions, and I'm prepared to oppose anything here that I think is stupid or pointlessly brutal. I believe the investigation is coming along well, and that lots of leads are being unearthed and pursued well. I'm satisfied, to my surprise, that Bush does not intend to brutalize Afghanistan merely to score points with yahoos. I believe that there's a fair chance that Taliban military and political players will decide at least to attempt to seize and deliver bin Laden and big chunks of al Qaeda. I believe it's worth supporting the Northern Alliance with air assets as they move on Kabul. I like Bush's plan to deliver food, and I think he is making reasonable alliances and is even beginning to press the Israelis to desist from their feverish designs on the West Bank.
I never for a moment thought that I would have positive things to say about this man, whom I believe stole the 2000 election. But he is doing alright, and I think people who said he should shun a quick and pointless carpetbombing romp, that he should be diplomatic, that he should feed the Afghanis and subvert the Taliban should at least acknowledge that he is doing what we demanded.
And I believe that, if Bush kills a bunch of people, declares victory, and comes home, his administration will be toast as soon as the next horrific terrorist attack hits the US. If nothing else, the certainly of further activities by bin Laden will keep Washington on the case until he and his confederates are at least arguably neutralized.

Ya know...

See, this is why I get tired of teaching sometimes. People don't pay attention to the whole, they concentrate on the little parts, and thus they miss the elephant.

You have to watch all of the new, not just five minuets worth.

This isn't a war against one man or one country.

My bet is still that it begins tonight, dawn their time. I just have this educated feeling. I could be wrong... doubt it.
