Is the United States of America (the wealthiest, freest, and most prosperous nation in all of history) headed down the same road as Germany, Russia, and China?

Even scholars and political scientists agree that the developments in America over the past 11 years foreshadow that we are headed towards a brutal and vicious totalitarian state.

Will America and the rest of the free world gradually descend into despotism much like Germany/Russia/China?

No. We become like Greece once at 20 trillion in debt. Did you not watch the debate?

Russia didn't exactly gradually descend into despotism.

Just sayin'.

Someone told me that Catherine the Great had a special contraption built (lack of a better word) to make it easier for a horse to mount her. I've always wondered if there was any truth to that.

Yeah, it happened almost instantaneously after Lenin's communist party overthrew the Bolsheviks.

I would assume that the complete reversal of democracy in the United States would require some sort of trigger mechanism.

Continuity of Government or "COG" plans developed during the Reagan administration (and later revised by the 2nd Bush administration) states that an entirely new constitution and bill of rights would be drafted following a major disaster or national emergency which would require the government to completely reform national security, such as a terrorist attack involving a weapon of mass destruction. It has been theorized that this new constitution/bill of rights are a complete reversal of what they are now.

Read Dostoyevsky and you will understand Russian depostism wasn't just a 20th Century event.
